Hi,
I'm using Ultra VNC to remotley control my HTPC. Works great but it's slow in updating. Does anybody know of a VNC type program that is fast enough to stream video from?

I think this was nemtioned somewhere once before but I can't remember where.

Cheers...

To stream video which is 25PAL-30NTSC frames per second would require a vast amount of information that needs to be sent.

Even if you were to scale back the refresh rate to half, it's sooooo much data, that more often than not, any remote desktop solution is not good for watching video...

I use Windows Remote desktop and TightVNC. Both work great for everything BUT watching video

Yeah, I thoght that might be the case. Pity.
I was just trying to get full streaming video so I can watch TV on the laptop from anywhere in the house.

Not really important, just one of those wanky things you'd like to do just 'cause you can...8P

Actually, you may want to look into using VLC. There are some links to stuff on the forum.

Also, supposedly someone had made a TV viewer app in VB6 that would do the job...

Supposedly, *I* had promised I would look at it and see if it could be updated.

I did, and I think I will not be working on that - too far over my head... (will be posting this in other thread...

Good luck

When you have your recordings on a shared drive you can open them "normally" with wmp or whatever player you want to use. In a lan that is.

Edit: I do this through the ewa, works great. If you use vlc for watching you even can watch recordings in progress.

I'm almost certain, but can't you watch the tv buffer from EWA's status page? While this isn't exactly live tv, and you can't readily change the channel, you can see what is being played via whatever tuner you chose (if it's already active that is).

I admit my desription was a bit confusing.
Yes you can: just hit the "play program" button in the manage recordings page/screen. You need vlc installed to play the m3u file because it's the only program (I know of) that plays files that are in use by another program.
