Is there a plug in that will allow you to manually cut commercials? The only editing s/w I have is power producer, but that re-encodes the file after I have trimed and cut it.
A 'lite' stand alone application would be fine too, anything that I can scan through the recording and cut out the ads and overwrite the original file without reencoding.

have you tried the nanopeg editor that comes on hauppauge cd?
very cheap and simple and free
for a better prog. try videoReDo....costs, but isn't much and works excellently..

I use comskip to tag my commercials, then run "comskip -w" on the first pass' text file to manually review and edit the commercial cut points (a very unappreciated and probably under-utilitized ability of comskip), and then mencoder to do the actual cutting. All done without re-encoding or cost.

There are a number of mencoder threads around here about it, one with a nice and continually revised mencoder batch file that'll work all kinds of other magic too. Look for Static's thread.

For completely manual cutting, demux the mpg, then load into Cuttermaran.
If you want some automation, Comclean or Comclean2 (using cuttermaran) will do very nicely, especially if you're already using comskip.
There are posts explaining how to use comskip with videoredo, mencoder, and cuttermaran to automate the process.

So do I, works great ! I only wish there was an extra key combination for a step of 50 frames. Now it is either pgup/pgdn for 500 frames or left/right arrow for 1 frame.

and then mencoder to do the actual cutting. All done without re-encoding or cost.

What mencoder line are you using for this?
