What are the keyboard or 'remote control' controls?

Information on controlling GB-PVR with either a remote control control or the keyboard can be found here:http://www.gbpvr.com/QuickStart/shortcuts.htm

I get the 'Failed to communicate with the GB-PVR Recording Service' message?

If the GBPVR Recording Service is running, this probably means you've not fully configured your capture source. Edit the Capture Source and click on each of the Settings buttons and confirm the settings are correct. Even if you know the defaults match your settings, you should view the settings as its only at this stage the defaults are applied.

You can also get this error if you installed the Microsoft .net v1.1 runtime after you installed GB-PVR. If this is the case, uninstall GB-PVR and (re)install.

When I view Live TV or attempt to play back an MPEG-2 video file, a separate window with the title "ActiveMovie" popups. Whats happening?

I know of one situation which can cause this. I get this if I have selected to use VMR and my preferred decoder (or system default decoder) is the PowerDVD Cyberlink decoder. This is occurring because the Cyberlink decoder does not support VMR. To stop it happening, either configure GB-PVR to use Overlay instead of VMR, or select another preferred MPEG-2 decoder

How can I get channel icons in my TV Guide like those shown in your screenshots?

If you're using XMLTV and the xml contains the url of the channel logo, GB-PVR will automatically download and use a copy of the image. Otherwise, GB-PVR looks for channel logos in the c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\media\ChannelLogos directory. It looks for a file with the same name as the channel + the extension .jpg or .gif.

A good place to download high quality channel logos is http://www.satlogo.com

When I try to view a DVD, my screen just goes blank. Whats going wrong?

This can happen if the system tries to use an MPEG2 decoder that doesn't support DVD playback. This often happens if the Elecard MPEG2 decoder is installed. The work around is to explicitly select an DVD decoder in the config app, rather than relying on the System Default.

Sometimes when viewing a DVD I get no sound. Whats should I do?

This can happen if the system tries to use an audio decoder that doesn't support the audio stream on the DVD. To correct this, explicity set a different DVD Audio Decoder on the playback tab of the Config app.

How can I view a DVD on my MVP or PVR350?
These two devices really need a standard MPEG2 file, with two channel MPEG Layer II audio for playback. The biggest problem with DVDs is the audio tends to be 5.1 AC3 sound. Below is a set of steps you can use to rip your DVDs to the hard drive, and to convert to an appropriate audio track.
[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]Step 1: I rip the DVD's with SmartRipper to my hard drive. I set SmartRipper to rip the movie to one big file.

Step 2: I then import that file into Womble MPEG Video Wizard and select Export. I only change the AC-3 audio to MPEG Layer II and hit Start. Only the audio is re-encoded.

The entire process is very fast and the resulting file is of excellent quality and plays just fine through the hardware decoder of the PVR-350

If a DVD has no copy protection I wont even use SmartRipper. I import into Womble direct from the DVD and proceed with Step 2.

I'm trying to use the internal tuner on my capture device, but half my channels are just static
As so many european users have difficultly finding the right channel numbers to key into GB-PVR against their channels, I've spent some time this weekend making a utility to help make it easier.

If you're currently experiencing these problems, you could download http://www.gbpvr.com/TuningAssistant.exe and give it a try. It'll help you find the channel numbers you need to use.

What do I need?
You need to be running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Your machine must also have the Microsoft .NET v1.1 runtime installed, and an MPEG2 decoder codec installed. Most, if not all, capture devices supported by GB-PVR ship with an MPEG2 decoder.

You can get the .NET v1.1 runtime here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloa....Lang=en

If you're running Windows 2000, you must also have MDAC 2.6 or higher installed.
What tuner card do I need?
GB-PVR is designed to work with capture devices with hardware MPEG2 encoders, or hardware DivX encoders. Currently supported are:

Hauppauge PVR250, PVR250MCE, "Roslyn/Blackbird", PVR350, PVR USB2 cards
Adaptec VideOh.
Provideo PV258, PV259, PV358T
Leadtek PVR2000
Avermedia M150
Pinnacle PCTV Deluxe USB
PixelView PlayTV@P7000
Generic Conexant "Blackbird" based card
Plextor PX-M402U
Lifeview TV Walker
Generic GO7007SB based capture device
