Reformatting

Hello Everybody,

I am getting ready to to a complete reformat of my system and I want to know what I need to backup in GBPVR. Currently I am running 96.12 still and after I reformat I would like to upgrade to the newest release at the same time.

I have read in forums:

As always, its recommended that you backup your config.xml and gbpvr.mdb/gbpvr.db3 files if you're upgrading from a previous release. Do not copy these back on to the new release though - these are just in case you need to go back to the old version.

Is there anything else I need to backup? And how do I retain my personal setting aka recordings when I reinstall after a format? Or is that what those two files do?

I suspect that you would need to copy these files back before installing the latest version. That way you can be sure that any updating of the files for the newer version will complete successfully. I'm not sure though, as I haven't tried.

He's correct. You'll need to install the same version on the newly formated machine, then copy the files on, then upgrade to the new version.

Alright thanks guys, my only question is how do I obtain 96.12? I know Sub that you don't like giving out old versions of GB-PVR but do you make exeptions or is there somewhere else I can get it?

Windows may have cached the MSI file somewhere - I'm not sure if it does it for GB-PVR, but it does it for a lot of other programs that use Windows Installer. A search of C:\ for all .msi files may reveal it.

Another option would be to upgrade to the latest version version now, on your working installation. Then the database and settings will be upgraded ready for the fresh installation with the new version.

Why don't you upgrade your old system just before formatting and then backup the new config.xml and gbpvr d/b as well. Then you can install the latest version fresh on your new installation and copy over these files.

Just backup what you need...

What do you mean by that? Is there more files that I need to backup other than those config.xml and gbpvr.mdb?
