I made an assumption that sizes in textstyles are based on "Points" (1pt = 1/72 inches).

I think I am wrong when I say 13pt fonts. Is it in fact pixels instead? Also, there is apparently a bit of "padding" around text. If so, is it a fixed value or a ratio?

I am trying to develop some "rules of thumb" when using text because somethimes the height allowed for text strings is too much, or not enough. There is alot of trial and error and guessing.

Anyone have something to go by?

What I have seen, the "padding" depends a lot on the specific font.
This was very obvious with the StarTrek font....both padding and size.
Microsoft fonts are the best....but I dont know of anything for rules.
Arial 13pt bold is best for Default font in plugins.

I did some tests with the skinedit program. (see wiki)

What I usually use is 10 pixels for padding and it tends to work well. That leads me to believe the text is in pixels and not points.

So if my text size is "13", having the DrawText field sized "23" vertically works.
And if my text size is "25", having the DrawText sized "35" works.

If I want word wrap, I double the vertical size of the DrawText.
ex. Text 13, DrawText 23 (one line of text), DrawText 46 (two lines of text).

I don't know how well this works for non-MS fonts. I guess it is good enough of a rule of thumb then. I didn't know if anyone had anything more concrete.
