MVP annoyance..

Living on the East Coast USA, we are prone to quit a few power outages, glitches, brown-outs etc.... (at least in the mid-atlantic region).
Anyway I bought an UPS for the main GBPVR server, it works and it should save some wear and tear on the box.
We have two MVP'S which are left off when not in use. When power is restored following an outage both MVP's are on (red light is on) and unable to connect to the server.
This forces me to turn off the GBPVR recording service, restart the Hauppauge MVP service, boot up the MVP's, shut down the Hauppauge service and restart GBPVR.
Lottsa time running up and down three flights of stairs, frankly not a big deal.

Anyone having similar problems?? Anyway of solving this??

PS I could buy a generator - nope, I could get two additional UPS's for the MVP's - nope, I could power the MVP's with 12v batteries - hmmmmmmm.

I encounter the same problem in Florida to the point that I actually requested that Sub add the feature where the original recording file will not be overwritten if the power failure occurs during a recording. Thankfully, he did that for me (and a few others requesting it).

Actually, you shouldn't have to stop the GBPVR MVP service and load the Hauppauge one. I have found that if I just restart the GBPVR recording service (which actually stops and then restarts it), unplug and then replug the MVPs, they will then typically find the GBPVR server and load just fine.

Still, I feel for you -- it's a pain. I live in a huge neighborhood that's only a year old, so a lot of new construction is going on. We get a lot of quick power blips/failures as they add new sections of the neighborhood, etc. The same thing happens with my internet service since the whole neighborhood is on a fiberoptic neighborhood LAN. I frequently come home to see my MVPs displaying their red lights, as well as all of our LED nightlights around the house are cycling their 8 color choices in demo mode! I have to go around to every nightlight and set it to display white (or else I get brothel red or beautimous pink -- haha).

From previous threads on power failures, New Zealand, the UK, and other countries don't seem to encounter as many electrical failures as we do. I think Sub felt my request for file protection after power failures to be a bit ridiculous at first, until a few more Americans chimed in!

I run three UPS's one for computer, monitor, MVP and sat reciever one for my HT reciever and a floor lamp with CF bulb and one for another sat reciever, atsc tuner, MVP and TV. I am in CA, not many failures but quite a few momentary glitches in the power.

"power over ethernet" widgets? I've not come across them - just heard of the facility. Are they using 'spare' pins to power the device completely or are they something like masthead TV preamps, where the PSU is at the cpu end with a widget and another widget at the MVP end to extract the power??.

You need a DHCP server on your network. This could be in the form of a router or a software DHCP server such as turboDHCP. This gives your MVP an IP address when the power is cycled which is what the Hauppauge software is doing when you restart it. There are some threads about it.

Actually, I believe this is a bug with the TFPT service.

If you have 2 MVPs trying to reconnect at the same instance it causes an issue. I've had the same problem. Running 3 MVPs here. If you unplug them all and let one connect and load the software fully at a time, you shouldn't have a problem. You shouldn't need to restart the GBPVR Service, however you need to make sure that all MVPs are unplugged, before startinging to plug them in one at a time.

The Hauppauge software handles the multiple connected MVPs just fine...

Haven't had a power outage for 5 days.............WOW!!!

Going to try some of the suggestions this weekend.
