I have been using GBPVR for a while now with awesome results. I upgraded my machine and decided to fresh install all applications from a format.

Since re-installing I am having a lockup issue that I never had before. My computer will either completely lockup, or not connect to MVP forcing multiple restarts of recording service.

Here are the lines in the log file that concern me... but let me know if you need anything else.

MVP problems like this are always really difficult resolve. The reality is that we dont have much visibility of why the MVP disconnects. Those that have soldered a serial port on their MVP can read the console messages, but other than that its pretty much guess work. The snippet of log above tells us nothing more than 'the MVP disconneced for some unknown reason'.

Quote:My computer will either completely lockup
If you're literally having your PC lockup, then this is pretty serious, and usually occurring somewhere within one of the drivers (ie, not MVP related). The Windows Event Viewer may give some clues.

Quote:not connect to MVP forcing multiple restarts of recording service.
There are some known issues that can cause this. What model MVP do you have? What messages are on the TV at this time?

Sub - thanks for the quick reply. I wish my contracted programmers were as responsive as you are.

The computer locks up only when GBPVR is open on the machine. I am in the process up updating all of the windows updates on the system now. I originally had a problem with .net 2.0 install but then I got it working.

The MVPs are all D3A models. They worked great on 96.12 version, and I would still use that except that I want Video Archive and can't find my previous version. In answer to your question about what happens to MVPs there are 2:
1. On power cycle I get stuck on loading application, I use hauppauge to send dongle.bin file and restart gbpvr.
2. My remote stops functioning if I am browsing though menus after about 20 seconds
3. If I can navigate to a file quick enough it will play for a little bit (anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 minute) and then I get the looping contacting servers which is when I restart.

Here is the result of some event log research:
----
(application hang)
Hanging application GBPVR.exe, version 1.0.2379.26398, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
----
I get a lot of the following:
----
(.net runtime error)
EventType clr20r3, P1 gbpvr.exe, P2 1.0.2379.26398, P3 f, P4 mscorlib, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4333ab80, P7 32f8, P8 d8, P9 system.io.filenotfoundexception, P10 NIL.
----

Anything else that you need... thanks a lot!!

zip and attach the GB-PVR logs and I'll see if I can see anything obvious. Its worth setting it to only have one MVP server while you produce these logs.

Okey dokey. I am not sure I understand your comment about 1 MVP... I have 3 and they all used to work, and now they all have the same symptoms.

The reason for the comment about setting it to only autostart one MVP server was because only the first MVP server will produce logs. If you run multiple servers, then you risk the error not being in the logs because it occurred in one of the servers that was not producing logs. Hopefully that makes sense.

That makes sense.... I will try with one MVP to see what happens in the logs. I am away now for two weeks... so I can't do it for a while. Do you have any suggestion about the .net errors in the event log?

There is one error in the logs that I've never seen any other reports of:

Quote:8/2/2006 11:16:06 PM.214 ERROR [8] Unexpected error starting MVP Server: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: No application is associated with the specified file for this operation
at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfo startInfo)
at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start()
at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(ProcessStartInfo startInfo)
at GBPVR.RecordingService.x2636c7dc33a3e19d.xcba1f05fb5a46d5f()
I'm not sure exactly what it means, but I'll google it.

I suspect this was the second of the two windows event log errors you noted.

What directory do you have GB-PVR installed in?

c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr - the default

At times I get an actual Error window that appears on my pc when the MVP crashes back to connecting to server.

I don't know if it matters, but all three GBPVR.exe processes are running at around 81,000k in task manager. These are the MVPs.
