Thanks, I got the usbuirt to split the signal but with zone 2 sometimes it changes to the incorrect channel #, like if I want to record ch 5 and ch 11 sometimes the wire emitter will change to ch 2 instead of ch 11, I edited the dish network signal file with Z2 put inplace but it still does that......

thanks again

Hi, I'm planning a similar scenario. Currently I'm using the latest (best!) version of gbpvr along with 2 haupagge 150mce's in WinXP(not MCE). I currently subscribe to my cable company's analog service and am considering moving to digital. I understand I will need two stb's for this, but I have only 1 haupagge remote~receiver, and I lost the stick on transmitter. I plan on buying two stick on IR transmitters online, since the beanbag has 2 outputs. I've read the "HIP/MCE/haupagge remote integration guide" very briefly, but it assumes one will actually be using MCE, which I won't be. Also, I have no intention of using the remote, instead the wireless mouse and keyboard we currently use. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on this before I subscribe to the digital service? Should this work the way I intend it? I guess I can always buy the usb uirt, but I'd like to at least try to utilize the hardware I already have. Thanks much!

Only if you want two digital signals recording. I have had one Digital cable box to one tuner and the analog to the other, working for a long time, working great...

The HIP Guide on the GB-PVR wiki does not assume that you are using Windoes Media Center. Yes, it does assume that you are using an MCE remote and beanbag, but I have used these instructions for both types of beanbags...

Yes this should work. I must admit, I didn't have much patience with the 150MCE's beanbag. It feels a little shoddy, and after banging by head for a couple of days, I discovered that one of the IR ports on the beanbag was not transmitting...

I ended up getting the MCE remote/beanbag/emitters seperately, and set it up exactly the same way as you are planning. It will work..

Yes, you could get an USBUIRT, but IMHO you're right to try the hardware you have already...

Hey thanks for the response. I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread, but it seemed almost on topic.

Yes, I do want two digital signals and the accompanying boxes. I've been using two analog sources just fine, it just seems the analog doesn't send a very good reception quality of my local channels. Adding an amplifier only made it worse, so I'm thinking its a problem with the analog transmission. We'll see.

I'm not sure where you are, but I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We have Shaw for cable. I happen to work for the company...

Basically, if you have split the signal enough that your analog signal looks bad, even when using an amp, it's time to have the cable company out to fix the signal...

With Shaw, the lower, analog, local stations do not look as good as the upper all digital signal. But with a tweak it can (and should) look very good...

Also, the analog channels are not digital on a digital cable box. They are the same analog signal passed through... You won't fix the picture on the analog channels by using a STB

And, anytime you use a Powered amp, you effectively turn your signal into one way, which means that with your digital cable box, you'll have trouble ordering PayPerView and VideoOnDemand (edit: Not trouble, total failure) Further, you will bot be able to even reset or activate the box. That means, you'll be wanting a service call to fix the signal anyway.

So my advice: Remove the amp, but leave all the spitters in throughout the house. Have your cable guy come in and check things, and amp the signal at the source. Everything will benefit...

Hope some if this helps

yeah, I'm in Wisconsin, USA. We have Time Warner SE Wisconsin for a cable co. I've tried straight from the wall to the tv with no split and the lower channels were still garbage, so maybe they do need to boost that signal. The amp package said DO NOT use with a digital stb or digital modem.. so I had it amped just to the tuners, but like I said , it seemed worse - with diaganol flickering in addition. Very informative though zehd, thanks.

Hey , just out of curiosity, what are most cable guys thoughts on walking into a place with two computers behind the tv, where they say " Yeah, just put the 3 stb's right on top of each other, two are for my tivo" . Or more to the point, what are the policies at shaw? Do they even care? As far as I know I'm not violating my service contract.

I am a cable tech and 99.9% of the guys I know would be totally confused and not have any idea how to handle it.
You aren't doing anything wrong, but you are making it harder to get problems fixed when they pop up.

(talk about a old thread right? Sorry I was looking for info on this and had to chime in.)
