Yes this goes under the "why don't you try it" category, but i'm at work & can't just yet. Smile

Someone gave me a 20" Dell flat panel that got rained on (I guess it was in a car with the window down)
Well of course it didn't work & they gave it to me.
I took it apart & dried it out.
Put it back together & it appears the VGA input is shot(probably from hooking it up while the circuit board was still wet), however it has DVI, Svideo & composit inputs.
S-video appears to work just fine when hooked up to my GBPVR machine, however i'm running 720x480 & sending that to a 1600x1200 native res lcd.
It's still a good picture, but i'm wondering if I were to raise the res on the PC & let that scale the video instead of the monitor if I could get a sharper picture.

It's a g-force 6200 so it does the hardware scaling.
I'm just not sure if it's possible to send that high a res through even a good svideo cable or even if the hardware will allow it or just kick it down.

I have located a DVI cable to test tonight so i'm hoping that input is still good.

My question aside from the s-video res is does anyone run GBPVR to a high res display & if so what res do you run it at & do you play non HD content to it.

I was curious so I searched the http://www.videohelp.com/search for:
s-video resolution. I saw some very interesting posts, some saying s-video going no higher than dvd-resolution, another saying he just enjoyed a hdtv show via s-video. It's all a bit confusing. Just check it out yourself, it's a very good and helpful site.

As far as i know the NVIDIA Card can send MAX 1024 x 768 through the S-Video out.

but is that what it really sends out of the S-Video, or is it just saying your can have an internal resolution of 1024x768 (desktop etc) and it'll resize it to standard NTSC or PAL for display on the S-Video out.

This is a good question, but i am not sure how to test this for sure. My old TV could only display the "normal" PAL Resolution. At 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 i had a Desktop on the TV, which moved if the mouse went to the borders.
But some of the newer GeForce cards support two Outputs from their SVideo Connections: The so called "HDTV" Output; but you need a YUV Cable for this to connect to SVideo Out (mostly delivered with the Graphicscard itself).

Sub is correct.

PAL and NTSC have a fixed field formats which dictate the number of lines of resolution.

PAL signal consists of 625 scan lines of which 576 lines are viewable.

NTSC signal consists of 525 scan lines of which 480 lines are viewable.

Additionally, TV-out encoders on video cards use a horizontal resolution of 704 pixels on the Nvidia encoder and 720 pixels on most ATI encoder chips.

The TV-out encoder (on the video card) scales the display resolution to the PAL/NTSC resolution.
