Note: this version is not compatible with GBPVR v0.96.12 or earlier. There is a legacy link in the first post on this topic.

Version 1.5.2416.21808 beta (direct download link)

As always, this is a beta, comments, suggestions and bugs report are welcomed.

Bug fix
  • Couple-a bugs fixed including one where Slimm would crash in sympathy with the recording service instead of restarting it and incorrectly trimming folder names which included a period.

Mister Slimm Wrote:Perhaps running GBPVRcli offset by a minute or two would help. It only takes a fraction of a second for GBPVRcli to read the recording schedule out of the database.

Thought of that, first want ot isolate problem. I am pretty sure at this point that tray alone does not casue problem, but want to give it one more day.

Mister Slimm Wrote:Also, are you absolutely certain that the GBPVRcli is only being called every five minutes and not end-to-end (couldn't think of the right word!)?

Yes, my batecher calls a perl script, this script calls the cli twice, first for pending and then for inprogress recordings. Script writes results to a file which are then used by LCD. Time stamp on file changes only every 5 minutes.

Mister Slimm Wrote:I don't know if you are doing this but other people use GBPVRcli in the batch files called by GBPVR at various times. These batch files are detailed here: Wiki > Manual > Batch Files. When I ran these during testing, I never experienced database locking problems.

Additionally, both GBPVRTray and SlimmGBPVR run RecordingStatus.bat whenever the recording status changes (recording started / finished / live TV started / finished).

I am using 3rd party system scheduling software right now. Have used this successfully for a long time. Will take a look at this after current set of experiments.

Thanks agin. Will update you as soon as I have more info.

Hey Mr Slimm,

Confirmed, CLI without slimmTray casuses problem. Using an offset in my batcher also appears to work. Problem only appears to happen when GBPVR recording service and CLI access database at the same time.

Let me know if you would like any more information.

Thanks for persisting with my product and not just going "pile o' cack" and dumping it.

aurora:

I am sure you are happy with your own setup, but might I suggest another way of using smartie and gbpvrcli?

By using the batch files that Slimm mentioned, I update a batch file before and after every recording. In the preprocessing.bat file, I run gbpvrcli to update two files, one that has upcoming recordings, and another that has the current recording. When the recording ends, I run gbpvrcli again from the postprocessing.bat, that updates the text files in the same way. The only tricky thing here is if you have back to back recordings (cli will run twice, and no way to tell if preprocessing or postprocessing will run first), but i wrote a simple script to check to see if the text files that cli writes to have been changed in the past ten minutes, otherwise, they are deleted.

It seems to me that you could cut down on the scheduling, but still get up to date information this way. Let me know if your interested, and I'll help with the setup.

Incedentally, have you checked the gbpvr logs for when gbpvrcli errors out? I think i had a problem with this a while ago, and fixed it by removing an unrelated plugin...

Hi Guys,

Mr Slimm, no problem, actually enjoy working through the problems.

Turkey,

I was thinking about trying to do something like you and Mr Slimm suggestd over the weekend. I would be interested in seeing your .bat files and script if possible. Might make sense to post them in the cli thread instead of here though.

Thanks all for the help.

have a look at this post in the smartie forum. it outlines my setup pretty well. i am not sure if the timecheck script that is posted there will work for you, as i have not had any feedback from other people using it, but if you do use it and have any problems, let me know.

If possible, would it be possible to show the number of pending recordings next to each reoccuring recording on the "reoccuring" menu?

For example:

Lost on E4 (2)
Alias on Bravo (0)

Where the number in brackets refers to the current number of shows scheduled to be recorded as per the available EPG data.

This would be a great way to quickly check that reoccuring recordings are still doing what they should and haven't been affected by any of the following:

1) Guide data programme name change
2) Programme time change
3) Programme skips a week
4) Old reoccuring recording suddenly springing back to life and consuming all available disk space

Thanks for continuing to develop this great addition to GBPVR!

Why did I wait so long to install this tool??!! Nice little utility! I have a couple of questions...

1) how do I turn off the old tray icon? I can close it but next time I start the machine its back!

2) someone said they see connected MVPs in the tray...I do not...is it only when one is actively watching something via MVP?

3) any chance we'll be able to rename a recording from this utility?

1- Remove it from the startup folder in start-programs

2- That's another plugin: mvp tray icon
