First MVP impressions

Hi,
first of all, many kudo's to sub for bringing this piece of software.

I just received my MVP. I have been fiddling with PVR software for quite some time, but I like GB-PVR the most, certainly because its MVP support.

I got my MVP yesterday and hooked it up. The setup is:
ASUS Pundit-R Barebone with Celeron CPU, 1 Gb RAM and Maxtor 6Y120P0 HD. One PVR-350 installed, standard onboard NIC (3COM 920B) running on 100 Mbit, connected to another 100 Mbit switch.

I run GBPVR version 0.21.4. When using the MVP, the menu's run a little behind (Can live with it), but I cannot skip commercials without hanging the MVP. I have to restart it and start over.

Any ideas why the skip doesn't work ?
I also read about a function to skip a couple of seconds by using the keys, but I haven't figured that out yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you enter the number of seconds and then press the Skip Forward/Back for the direction to go it should move that amount of time.

My fast forward and skip forward work fine for me, you may want to check you have the latest MVP firmware in the "c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\dongle" directory.
The one I use is "Tuesday, February 10, 2004, 4:03:10 AM"

I assume you have stopped the Hauppauge MVP services as these will interfere with GBPVR MVP services - they fight over who is in control and can result in video's not playing correctly.

Are you trying to skip commercials on a growing mpeg file (in other words timeshifting), well that feature doesn't work yet (in live TV the feature is blocked but you can of course point to a growing file and it will play but ffw will give unexpected results because of the changing file length I think). Â I hope sub implements this "feature" soon because I think this is a fundamental feature for PVRs. Â I still use the "stock" software to timeshift, which works rather well (also not perfect).

I havent seen that problem either. I had no trouble fast forwarding recordings.

I didn't even bother to install the Hauppauge software. I installed GB-PVR and hooked up the MVP. Or does the WinTV software come with a MVP service that needs to be stopped ?

Another thing I notice is that if I use the MVP to schedule a recording, the MVP is restarting after I click Record. Is that normal behavior ?

Firmware is a 1.431 bin file, 2/10/2004, 8:03 AM.

You only need a dongle.bin file. And your best bet is to go to shspvr.com and get one of the latest ones, and place this dongle.bin in the devnz/gbpvr/Dongle directory. Then we can try and figure out the problems from there.

The MVP should not reboot when you hit record, though i'm not sure how old the dongle.bin file is you are using.

What is the revision of your MVP box? (should be on bottom of it, I believe),
