Hey there, I need some help figuring out how I've managed to cause this :o

Using the Advisor skin I get a giant red "X" across the top and bottom of some of the screens. The main menu is fine, but as the screenshots show going into the guide, system settings, etc. you get the weird X problem.

Can anyone tell me what's causing this and how I might fix it? I really like this skin, but won't use it if I can't fix rid myself of that "X" Smile

Version: GB-PVR v0.98.8b
Skin: BaseSkin 2.8
various plugins - have tried with no plugins installed with no change

Thanks for any help you can offer!

~ Shadowplay ~

p.s. - I'm brand new around here and this is my first GBPVR build Smile So far I love what I see and if I can just iron out a few more kinks I think I'll have myself a very usable PVR for the first time.

Hi Shadowplay

I have seen this before. Not all the themes you are using are designed for use with Advisor skin 2.8. When you look at the Wiki you can see which themes are suitable for Advisor skin 2.8

If you look in your your gbpvr.exe.log it will tell you the name of the missing image. If you can;t find it feel free to post the log and someone should be able to help you out.

Thanks guys for pointing me to the right log file. That helped me track down what was going on, not to mention a few other errors Wink Basically I had made a nice mess of both my plugins and skins so I moved everything out of those folders and started clean.

The new problem I'm having is, again, likely due to something odd I've done. I'm working with the Advisor skin and related theme packs and can't get it "right". Every time I install a new theme pack it essentially overwrites the previous one so when I do a config I just see "Advisor" listed and showing the most recent theme pack, but none of the other theme packs I have.

There also seems to be some skin related errors in the current log as well such as this:
Could not find file 'C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\skin\Advisor\background_mainmenu.jpg'
When I look for that file it exists as a PNG instead of jpg. I'm sure there's an xml file I could tweak to fix this, but I'd rather get it right through the install process instead of tweaking. Tweaking at this point makes me feel that I've done something wrong installing one of the pieces.

I'll report back with further developments Smile

Hi

You have got the wrong Theme versions
For Advisor v2.8 skin, download Themes from this Wiki
http://hyperlinkx.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Skins/Themes

You also have to run the skinroot.exe in the Advisor skin root, so the themes will install themself to the right path.

That's exactly where I got them from :confused:. I think I did mix some theme versions on my previous install and that was definitely a mess. This time around I was very careful to install only themes from that very link you gave.

I was just now getting a SQLite error that I can only get rid of by switching to something other than the "Advisor" skin.

Can someone walk me through exactly what I should do to get themes working correctly? Starting from a clean install of GBPVR so there is only the single skin "Blue" in the skin folder. You shouldn't have to spell it out for me, but there's gotta be something I'm missing here Smile

EDIT: forgot to mention I did run SKINROOT.exe to set the path and am using "skin/Advisor" instead of "skin/BaseSkin" in case that makes any difference.

OK

You are not using Advisor v2.8 skin.
The new thing was the ScreenNameHeader tag that presents the Screen Title at the top of each submenu

Something like this should be found in each skin.xml file
<!-- screen header -->
<CompositeImage name="ScreenHeader" size="720,65">
<DrawText text="@ScreenName" loc="30,10" size="620,60" textStyle="ScreenName" align="Left"/>
</CompositeImage>

Update to Advisor v2.8 skin

Weird, I'm convinced I installed 2.8 (file I downloaded is: Advisor_v2.8.zip).

However, I think I've solved all my skin/theme problems by avoiding them entiredly Smile. I've moved on to the "Plain Jane Collection" and have been fiddling with that - very slick setup. I've managed to use some custom images with minimal effort on my part and I think this will work great for the time being. At some point I may return to my Advisor skin problems, but I've got other things to work out that are more important, i.e. priority recordings (haven't gotten xrecord and related plugins to work quite right.)

Thanks for all the help everyone. I know it's a bit of a cop out to just use a different skin, but there's only so much time in the day Big Grin.

Since I don't want to cop out just yet, can you please tell me if you have an answer to this? I have the latest advisor skin, 2.8, and I actually did a clean install this morning so I know that I haven't mixed stuff up.
And I get that annoying red X. My log says
Quote:/11/2006 00:44:43.734 VERBOSE [1] Initializing skin helper for: .\skin\Advisor\tv guide\skin.xml
19/11/2006 00:44:43.734 VERBOSE [1] Skinhelper loading image from file: .\skin\Advisor\tv guide\..\background.jpg

19/11/2006 00:44:43.859 VERBOSE [1] Skinhelper loading image from file: .\skin\Advisor\tv guide\..\TVguide_logo.png

So the 3 last lines of TVguide (and other menus), have a problem. I think it's in the file of the skin where it says DrawCompositeImage, but I don't know.

It's really annoying because I did not get this error in my previous installation, which was so mangled up I had to reinstall.

Help please!
Thanks
