Hi

Well its not "my client" but it was a software version of the MVP hardware so you could watch videos on your PC from the GBPVR software server.

Although that said ive just realised that this is now sort of built into GBPVR (will need to look into this more).
Many Thanks
Ashley

and now looking at this, i still feel a software MVP would be a good idea.... would be way more stable than GBPVR as a client (watch live TV etc..) and have access to all the plugins as there designed.....

I have 2 machines, one main PVR with all the plugins then mine which has another card i use for work, i would like to watch stuff recored on the main unit, would be way easier to have a software MVP i can run and watch that goes off to the main PVR unit.

If i could program i would do it myself, at the moment i dont have the time to learn to program to get this working, ths would be handy for laptops as well so they can also use the main PVR unit thats running GBPVR....

Many Thanks

I for one, am not interested in personally pursuing this option. mvpmc is designed to enhance the software on very good dedicated media players and not to provide the GBPVR interface to inadequate hardware. This would end up being a support nightmare.

Supporting nightmare possibly, however "inadequate" hardware, i wouldnt say, i am pursuing this down another means, it has more use then you think, however an MVP has a totally different use than a PC, but to claim a PC is not up to the job isnt correct, granted you would need decoders but then thats what GBPVR already does, it doesnt have encoders built in it uses Windows, that all the software MVP would have been designed to do and just squirt the commands over the standard MVP protocol to the correct server.
Many Thanks

To put my comments in context, if the hardware doesn't work as a GBPVR client I consider it "inferior".

I will be working for a PC based MVP but it will be diskless and linux based, not Windows (to avoid the MS tax) and I will limit support to very capable but inexpensive motherboards. I though I found one in the G45 but because of problems with 1080p/24 I am less enthusiastic.

Martin, can I offer my poor skills to help to get a Linux/PC/MVP off the ground?

I already have a fair amount of time invested in mvpmc with mythtv and now that I have switched to GBPVR, also have some diskless linux hardware sitting around with nothing better to do! (formerly minimyth). I have years of linux development behind me, but my biggest problem is a lack of understanding of the MVP and how 'emulation' works. Can you direct me to a summary of how the hardware/software in an MVP interfaces with GBPVR?

trummel, the best place to start is to join the mvpmc developers mailing list and make a post if you want to help with the project. It is very myth specific but that's because I'm the only one doing emulation mode work. Here's some info on the mvpmc wiki http://mvpmc.wikispaces.com/developer

The best place to start for emulation mode is here http://www.rst38.org.uk/mediamvp/ for the server and then look at the mvpmc client code in the mvpmc git repo.
