Just wondering if any Skystar2 owners have tried the beta BDA drivers that Technisat have available (download link is http://www.technisat.com/?site=service/d...uktID=1281

I guess that they should work with GBPVR (with the appropriate edit to BDA.ini), would be interested to know if anyone's using them.

Indeed, they do work. These are my BDA.ini edits:

[TechniSat SkyStar2 PCI (BDA)]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-S
SUPPORTS_BDA_DISEQC=3
FILTER_TUNER=TechniSat BDA Digital Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=TechniSat BDA Digital Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

Card is recognized, scanning and EPG work. Diseqc does not work with GBPVR.

The other drawback is that the BDA driver does not work properly with DVBViewer. In order to use the Skystar with either GBPVR or DVBViewer you will have to install the respective driver each time. Hopefully, sub will be able to work on Diseqc support next year, so I can use GBPVR exclusively.

Cheers, I'll include the definition in the master file.

I've emailed TechniSat to ask about their private diseqc interface, so hopefully they'll come back with some technical info to enable me to add diseqc control for their devices. I dont know if they'll provide one or not, but I also asked for sample device.

they don't want to work for me ...

I get the following mysterious error:
anybody know what can cause that ?? the card appears to scan, but never finds any channels and I don't believe that it does in fact scan

I have had it working find with the normal drivers and progDVB, also I have had GBPVr working with a k-world twinhan dvbt card, so I have some idea how to get it all going!!

The snippet of log above looks fine, but the device fails to lock a signal. This log doesnt show a scan, but just an attempt to lock one specific frequency. You may need to hit the rescan button to generate a log that shows a full scan.

thanks for speedy response sub - half past midnight here in N.Ireland!

if I let config run on, it just goes through 80 frequency increments but never finds anything -- previously I had the ss plugin working fine with manual channel definitions, but decided to change to the BDA drivers.

how can I bypass the scan and manually enter the channels/frequencies in the gbpvr db -essentially the same as the ssplugin.txt

If no channels are found, then I'm guessing they've got buggy BDA drivers.

You're not trying to use a diseqc switch? Their BDA drivers dont support diseqc.

Essentially you cant. (well, you can if you know what you're doing, but I dont have the hour so required to type out instructions, and I dont really like the idea of people entering stuff directly into the database)

excuse my ignorance, but what does having a skystar 2 card working with the BDA driver give me that i don't get with the existing SS2recorder plugin?
Intel P4 2500 mhz, 1.25G Ram, XP Home SP2, Maxtor 30Gb and WD 200gb drives, PVR-500MCE, DM500s, dboxrecorder, GBPVR 1.2.9, 2 x wired MVP,

Hey johnnylarne...

Did you set the "DVB-S LNB Setup"?

It should be: (for most sats)

LNB LOF1 (MHZ) = 9750
LNB switch (MHZ) = 11700
LNB LOF1 (MHZ) = 10600

It works with those settings... At least for me. Smile

still unclear what the advantage of the BDA driver would be?
