I'm using Build 52 and webstreaming with VLC as my external player. This sub-forum was very helpful with the setup, excellent utitlity!

What quality of video should I expect? It's not great now, very large pixels. I used the config settings found in a previous post on this forum. The video quality is the same whether with wired or wireless on my home network.

I also opened the Network Stream on the host computer and had the same result.

Thanks.

When on the local network you should be able to ramp up the stream to the LAN speed and set the video size to 720x480 or (if using scale instead of preset size) 1.0.

You can use the following on most systems to get a good stream. What settings are you using?

Those are the settings I was using. I changed the video scale to 1.0, as you suggested, and the video quality is much better.

I haven't had a chance to try this away from the house yet, but really looking forward to it. Being able to stream live TV is a great feature.

Thanks for the quick answer!

No problem...remember....when you are outside your local network you are limited to the upspeed connection of your ISP. If you are running at 384k then the settings above are what you want to use since you will bottleneck your connection if you try to make the settings higher.

If you are running a 2mbps upspeed (like me Big Grin) then you can keep the higher setttings.

As far as the larger pixels that you mentioned....my guess is that when you were viewing the screen you switched your player to full screen mode which causes the player to scale the incoming feed to meet your screen size....that will cause large pixels.

When streaming outside of the network you will get the best results using the smaller video screen size (i.e. .50 or even .25). Instead of maximizing the player to full screen try just expanding it it by dragging a corner of the player to make it larger....then you can stop when you start getting the larger pixels.

Also....you will want to use VLC as your player....I personally think it gives the best results.

Variable....

Here is the VLC command line for the settings above:
Code:
--intf http "E:\TV\Into the West\Into the West_20050619_18002000.mpg" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264{bframes=0,qp=,cabac=no-cabac,loopfilter=nf,analyse=none,adapt=none,me=dia,subme=6,chroma-me=none,merange=1,},[B]vb=256[/B],scale=00.50,acodec=mp4a,ab=96,channels=2}:standard{access=http,mux=ts,url=:7648} vlc:quit

Here is the VLC command when set to use MPEG-4 Default with the Default encoder:
Code:
--intf http "E:\TV\Into the West\Into the West_20050619_18002000.mpg" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,[B]vb=256[/B],scale=00.50,acodec=mp4a,ab=96,channels=2}:standard{access=http,mux=ts,url=:7648} vlc:quit
