Sub, my PVR500 arrived today, and I'll be installing it tonight. Do I need to get any special drivers or do I use what comes on the CD? Any other tips for setting up this card?

I have ordered a bunch of the 10 pin connectors for the extra video/audio in ports so will be making up some adaptor cable sets shortly!

Cheers,

I just used the most recent PVR150 drivers from http://www.shspvr.com.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with your extra adaptor cable.

If the adaptor cables don't fry my PVR-500 I'll send you one!

By the way, I couldn't find PVR150 drivers on shspvr.com so installed the driver from the CD.

The PVR-500 is working just great so far on both broadcast and SkyTV satellite sources.

Cheers

Howdee..

I too just recieved my PVR-500 but i'm having a hard time getting the damn thing running.

I am using:
ASROCK K7VMZ M/B with an AMD 2400 CPU
512 MB Memory
MSI Nvidia 440MX Video Card

I installed XP fresh and put the Nvidia drivers on and also DirectX9 then rebooted etc.. Added the PVR-500 on the next reboot and updated the drivers from the CD (which appear to be the latest).
Installed DotNet 1.1 and then GBPVR.
I am not getting a picture and the CPU useage is pretty high I would have thought since the card has encoders on board.
Then all of a sudden the computer re-boots..

Anyone got any ideas?

JohnO, if you have had success in making it work sweet could you share information on what hardware you using with this card?

Have I missed something? [Image: rock.gif]

Thanks in advance

You also have to install something that includes an MPEG2 decoder, like PowerDVD or Intervideo WinDVD. The non MCE cards install a MPEG2 decoder when you install Hauppauge WinTV software, but I'm not sure this works with the MCE versions.

The encoders only effect recording, not playback, so if you're recording a program in the background it'll use next to no CPU. If you try to play a program or watch live, these both require MPEG2 decoding for displaying on the screen. This step can consume a considerable amount of CPU.

Yeah, thats not normal but does imply some form of driver problem.

Hey,

Thanks, that fixed the problem with displaying live TV etc..

I still have the re-booting problem but I might try some different hardware and see if the problem is still there..

On the subject of MPEG-2 decoders, would you think given that the PVR-500 needs a decoder for playback, would a VIA EPIA MII Mainboard be an ideal match? VIA EPIA MII Mainboard

This has a hardware MPEG-2 decoder on board for playback.

Thoughts anyone? Has anyone tried this board with the PVR-500 already?

Cheers

Interesting read on the VIA EPIA MPEG-2 decoder: http://gbpvr.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST&f=6&t=2292
