I just got a new 52" HD DLP LG TV for christmas. Model number 52DC2D. I output the signal to the tv via SVGA cable. The manual says to set the resolution to 1024*768... That is not a widescreen res??? And when I play movies thru GBPVR they are all streched sideways... and not as high as they should be. The windows desktop also is stretched sideways... Anyone else having similar issues... When I play movies with cyberlink powerdvd they seem to display fine.

I did set the aspect ratio in GBPVR to 16:9.

One more question... i currently have an ATI 9600 AIW in my HTPC now... I am considering upgrading to a XFX GF 6200 256mb for $71 CAD. Is it going to be worth it... The AIW with the cyberlink decoder is a alittle grainy looking for my taste on the new tv... I am hoping a new purevideo supported gfx and nvidia dvd decoder will clean that up. I previously ran the nvidia decoder put the trial has long expired. The rest of the machine is a AMD 64 3200+, 1.5gb ram, and 1 tb of storage.

The rules are actually pretty complicated, so we'd need a few more details.

Focus on one movie for now. What type of video are you trying to play (avi/mpg)? If its a AVI file, what resolution is it? If its an MPEG file, what aspect ratio is it supposed to be?

I'm guessing it wouldnt be worth it. The nvidia cards have a couple of significant problems: (1) driver aspect ratio bug which cause garbage on the screen for most aspect ratios unless using VMR9 Custom, and (2) picture tearing is much more common on nvidia cards.

Ok we will use the movie 8 below... it is a .dvd. Ripped from dvd using DVDFab decypter. It is a widescreen movie not sure if 16:9 or anamorphic 2.35:1.

It looks like the black bars are there twice making it compressed vertically.

Ah ok, this is probably the worst type of file to try since GB-PVR doesnt attempt to auto aspect ratio control with DVDs. If you press F7, you should be able to toggle between the various aspect ratios.

Thanks... I shall try that tonite... What do you mean by worst file type? Worse quality?... It is exact dvd quality I thought.... Since each movie is that same size on the hard drive as it is on disk. All my movies are .dvd

No, I just meant it was the only media type GB-PVR doesnt try to auto detect the aspect ratio for. AVI or MPG files on the other hand will get auto aspect ratio control.

Jkbanman - from what I found (not easy to find this TV), native resolution is actually 1280x720 (which is also what I'd expect, as usually 50" and above TVs have proper wide-screen res.).
when I connected my plasma to the PC on VGA cable, it (PC) somehow (plug&pray) recognized the new resolution, and that was available in the display settings (normally I see only 3x4 resolutions there).
See what you get. If you don't get this resolution, you may need to reboot while VGA cable connected and VGA out enabled. Who knows.

Then, if I'm right and this is the native res (1280x720), then GBPVR should show things correctly (this what works for me), i.e. when Aspect is set to "Auto" or "full" it fills the screen.
Hope it helps.

I am using an ATI 9600 in my PC. It has an HDMI out. My understanding is that you must use HDMI or component to get the higher resolutions from your video card, that an S cable won't work.
