he wants to have elements off of my "virtual root" which contains the contents of multiple directories. so my virtual root has
Films, TV Shows, Music Videos etc. and under films he wants the contents of say "D:\Films" "C:\Films" etc. but the trouble is what if they have sub directories, and then changing back to the parent.

plus he spelt my name wrong, that aint earning him any points.

ok i thought of a cheap way of doing this, kinda like a shortcut in windows but not. later today ill add another file to look for, extension ".link" this will be a plain text file with a location in it, the location will be read, and every "video file" (wont work with directories) will be added to the current directory. so this will be able to do what you want, you may just have to make dummy directories with a plain text file in them. expect it in about 12 hours.

Reven, another idea, that might be a good long term solution (say for a future enhancement) is to create your own table that contains a listing of all the videos that are on the system. I'm thinking I'm going to have to do something similar but for recordings (i.e. stuff that was already recorded but has been deleted or archived off the system). If you create the necessary DDL you might be able to just add the table to the existing GBPVR database, and might be able to make it database server independent (i.e. MSDE or Access).

Basically you would have a table that has columns for Category, Name, Description, Image, and Location.
Categories would be Film, TV, etc. You could use IMDB to help populate it as you do now. With this meta data stored, you now have a fairly easy way to get the information in a variety of formats, fairly quickly with a minimal usage of memory. Images could be stored in the database if you wanted, or just left in the directory (personally I'd store in the directory, never liked storing images in databases).

im not a big fan of using a database for a database sake, these have been used in many "music" plugins/features like in xbmc,mediaportal. they, i find, are more trouble than they are worth. theres no real point to use them if a good file structure can achieve the same results (sure it would be smarter to use a database for the imdb info, which i may do in the future, if i can be bothered), but making a database of all video files is just busy work, sure you could do some cool searches, by actor/directory/year/genre etc, but theses would hardly ever be used so no point.

good idea, but until i see a huge benefit from it, i wont bother.

ok theres something wrong with the wiki, it wont allow me to upload the new version, so ive attached the new dll file, just replace the one found in gbpvr\plugins, the skin remains the same and no configuration is needed (if you have configured the old version, if you havent, you will have to set this up in the gbpvr configuration app).

so heres a basic .link file

it doesnt matter if there is a &quot;\&quot; on the end or not, and you can have multiple lines, the name doesnt matter, it will scan every &quot;.link&quot; file found. the imdb info found in those remote directories is all carried across, so all looks good.

if this works perfect, with no real problems, ill implement this feature in the other &quot;my xxxx&quot; plugins.

How exactly do you set this up. My movie are located here G:\Movies;E:\Movies\J:\Movies

I have the newest release before this one, not done any thing to the config.xml
Do i put a text file in G:\ root with the extention .link with the path to E:\Movies J:\Movies etc..If you can help me i will send you plug nodation fee if you have paypal. Thanks Alot..Hey Bust My balls any time. I know i am the dummy here...:p
