I am very new at this and am considering getting a Happauge MediaMVP, probably wired, not convinced wireless is good enough quality especially for video.

I downloaded GB-PVR and it looks awesome. Currently have Hauppauge PVR150MCE that came with MCE remote and blaster. However, I cannot seem to get the blaster to work with my sat stb with GB-PVR, however, it works with MCE, so it's not the blaster hardware that is the problem. I selected MCE 2005 blaster in setup and did read in the wiki about a program called HIP. Before I continue trying to figure HIP out, is this definitly required? Should the blaster work without it? What am I missing?

To be honest, I dont know if the built in GB-PVR functionality will be able work with the Hauppauge MCE remote. Its not something I've ever tested.

You should be able to use HIP for this though.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the MCE blaster and remote "married", ie, if GB-PVR may not function properly with the Hauppauge MCE remote, it may not work with the blaster either? Not really sure what I am asking here, I am just trying to get my head around the relationship between the MCE remote and blaster. I noticed that when even using the channel up/down on the computer screen the channel changes in GB-PVR, but the info does not get blasted to the STB. I am not stuck on wanting to use the Hauppauge MCE remote, but the blaster is essential. I guess I will check out HIP.

No, they not. Windows is passes messages to GB-PVR in response to remote button presses, and GB-PVR doesnt talk directly to the MCE remote or its receiver. The blaster would require direct communication with the MCE blaster.
