I have had a 550 pro tuner card for a year or so, but after I built a new computer it just did not want to play nice with my Nvidia based hardware. I then got a Leadtek 2000XP Expert, but to my surprise it does not have hardware encoding. I should have researched it more, but it seemed like a fairly nice card (oh well). I did get it to work via the software pluging, but the MVP does not recognize it as a tuner card. From what I have seen, cards that do not have hardware decoding are not going to be supported anytime soon by GBPVR. So....
....Moving right along, what cards are out there that are not based on an ATI chipset and have hardware encoding?
Hauppauge has some nice offerings but their cards seem somewhat overpriced for what you get. Though I have thier Media MVP; and overall it is a very nice unit.
I would like the card to cost less than $100. HDTV would be fun to play with, but I live in a somewhat rual area, probably would only pull in 5 HD stations so HD is not a priority.
I only have 2 PCI slots so the USB thumb drives are a nice looking option, but they seems to lack some of the features thier "boarded" couterparts offer. AKA FM radio, s-video input, video quality?, ect.
Vista certification, Media center certification; are they necessary?
