Need some advice.

UPGRADE DAY!

I'm going from a 1ghz P3 to a p4 2.6ghz
Downgrading my host drive to 8.4GB upgrading my storage drive to 120GB.

Ok need some advice on backing up GB-PVR, I need a complete back-up of my personal data. For example I want it like I never wipe and reload windows. I want it so I can go to recording and still watch my recorded programs in gb-pvr.
What about my configuration, do I need to make a new one?
All that stuff What do I need to back up?

Back up the config.xml and gbpvr.db3 files. After upgrading and reinstalling windows and GB-PVR, copy the recordings back to the same path they were originally at, then copy the config.xml and gbpvr.db3 into the GB-PVR directory then restart and you should be away.

Make sure you only copy the config.xml and gbpvr.db3 files back to the same version of GB-PVR that created these files.

I would backup the whole gbpvr-dir.
Then after re-instaling windows, make sure everything is in the same place as before, = recordings on the same drive-letter\dir etc. Then make a dir C:\program files\devnz\gbpvr. Then put gbpvr.db3/gbpvr.mdb and config.xml (from the backed up gbpvr) in that dir. Then install gbpvr, you should be right where you left off. Don't forget to out back other files back you might have put there, e.g. updateepg.bat, postprocessing.bat etc.

Personally I would. v0.96 is very old now, and lacking lots of cool features that have been added since. v0.98 and v0.99 have both been very stable.

...but in relation to your upgrade, make sure you only copy the config.xml and gbpvr.db3/gbpvr.mdb files back to the same version of GB-PVR that created these files. So if you want to upgrade, either do it before backing up the files, or after you get your machine back up and running with v0.96.

Ok This is what I'm doing.

backup gb-pvr directory.
backup HIP!
backup other stuff.

Shut down and swap components.

Boot up & reload windows.
Install gb-pvr 0.96
restore files needed for 0.96
update to latest version.
restore hip!
restore other stuff.

Sound good Am I forgetting something?

I have to stick with 0.96 There is no Software Recorder plugin higher than 0.97.

I'm not aware of anything stopping the software recorder from working. The author last updated it at the time v0.97 was current, but there is no reason it shouldnt still work.

That said, I have to recommend using a supported card - it makes life much easier.
