I guess it's physically impossible or maybe physically possible, but not in the dongle - but on quite a few occasions I'd love the ability to turn off MVP's from the shack rather than all the way down and back up in the middle of the night. (turn off into standby, not right off)

I suspect (but aren't sure) that the constant chattering between server and MVP is one of the reasons my system doesn't always go into standby/hibernate??

At the moment I pull the UTP cable to the downstairs switch out of the upstairs router (and forget to plug to back in).

I second this. Hate going downstairs on a cold night if I forget to to turn it off ... Wonder if mvallevand's dongle could do this ... :-)

What do you mean? Whats wrong pressing the green standby button on the MVP remote to put it into standby.

I'm sure I'm missing the point here...

LOL....Nothing wrong with it if you remember to do it. :-) (btw I don't use standby due to the effect on PC Playback, just turn it off).

The problem is small family members who switch the TV off, but not the MVP.
And the play room is down three flights of stairs (and back up them ;>)

Sorry, unfortunately the Hauppauge protocol doesnt provide any functionality that could be used for this.

k.

I thought standby (green mvp-remote-button) was standby/off. To turn it really off you have to unplug it. When I leave the mvp on my pc won't hibernate.

My MVP gets its power from an outlet on the audio-amplifier. So if the audio is switched of, the MVP goes as well. (I am aware that feeding 220V from one device to an other is not allowed in all countries)

That means it has to reload the dongle everytime you switch on the amp, right?

I only use GBPVR/MVP for watching recorded programs, not for live TV, and my computer runs 24/7. Is there anything wrong with leaving the MVP on all the time? Or would it burn out prematurely? I don't think it uses a great deal of power.
