Hi Sub

The volume needs to be "just so" in our house - apparently. Ideally it should have no dynamic range at all....

In order to maintain domestic bliss and be able to hear what people are saying on the TV, I find myself making fairly frequent changes to the volume. However, every time I do this, the OSD appears, which disrupts the viewing for the others.

Ideally, I would like my subtle volume control adjustments to go unnoticed.

Any chance of this for a future release?

Would anyone else find this feature useful?

:-)

I voted 'No' but that's assuming you're talking about the whole OSD. i would still like to see the volume OSD, just not the bottom show information or the timeline

I'm not sure what and where you're talking about.
I'd like the volume bars to return to the MVP although I don't use it much as the 'steps' in volume are too big. We tend to use the TV volume control for general use.

To Clarify:

The OSD that I am really referring to is that which appears when you press the volume control when watching recordings and live TV. Specifically, the timeline at the top of the screen (recordings) and the programme description at the bottom.

I can see why some folks would want to keep the small volume display (enough people asked for it), though personally I would rather do without this as well and just rely on my ears.

i like to see changes to, but it won't hurt to be able to change that (for everybody á gusto). so maybe a checkbox in the config to switch that on/off won't hurt. must agree that volume bar alone would be enough without any info in the lower part involved or even better: display only the volume change in the lower part, i find info displayed there less annoying

Volume OSD -> yes
Timeline & Description -> no thanks
checkbox in the config -> good idea

Rather than looking to change the program, wouldn't it be better if people simply customised their skin files to suit their individual preferences - I can understand why the volume control appearance is annoying for you, but this almost seems akin to asking sub to implement a config option to change the position of a pop-up box.

I can't try it at the moment, but does changing the location of the unwanted features in the OSD skin.xml file to an offscreen location work? Or even simpler, try setting the "VolumeBorder", "VolumeFill" and "VolumeFillMuted" colors at the start of the skin file to "transparent".

cheers,

The thing is, my request is not just about the volume control appearance.

As I tried to clarify in post #5, I ideally don't want any OSD objects displayed when I press the volume (although I guess I could live with just the volume slider) but I do still want to see the progress indicator when I FF, RW or PAUSE and I do still want to bring up the OSD TV guide.

I'm more than happy to hack about with a skin if it will give me the behavior I am looking for.

This affects the volume bar only. However I did start exploring the OSD skin (I have never looked at the skin xml files before) and I removed the show description from the VideoPlayback section. I also deleted the volumeslider section. Now when I press volume, pause or FF, I get just the progress indicator only, which is a little better.

Cheers
