I might convert to NTFS to get past the 4 GB barrier. Since I have multiple PCs and laptops in the network and each are for certain things I need to be able to access them all from any other, so I need to look at the pros and cons of going to NTFS. Any help is appreciated.

I absolutely would switch to NTFS. I'm always surprised when people mention they're using FAT32.

Your other PCs will still be able to access this drive fine.

The only real reason to stick to FAT32 is if you have an external hard drive and use it on linux and mac. Even then there are NTFS readers and writers for Linux not sure about mac through. I doubt many people use win 9x nowdays.

Thanks sub. The reason I never went to NTFS is because I was never sure if I would be in a situation in which I lost visibility to other drives or completely lost data from a mistake. This is one of the few instances of being too scared to attempt something and not having time to study up on it. I did try to study up before posting this question but I got a bunch of irrelevant results.

as long as you only want to access shares on the network it does not matter if NTFS/FAT32. it only matters if you have external drives (what herbs said) or want to install different OS on the same machine (again the same reason that herbs said). if that's not the case, do as sub said Big Grin
ps: if you do have some other boot discs, they might no longer be able to access that drive. current versions of linux live cd's should have no problem, they normally have the needed drivers
