I will try another method of direct xml via the aspx page once I get these few bugs worked out....it is always good to have several ways to get the same info so long as code isn't dupliated.... ;-)

Actually, plenty of feeds are created without the .xml file, but you do need to set the appropriate content type if you are using the ASPX to create the feeds. That is what the readers rely on more than the file type extension.

A perfect example is the RSS capability of the GBPVR Wiki.

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/...action=rss

That feed is generated dynamically with a php script.

Thanks....I don't think I set the content type so that is probably the issue....I will work on that....I may be back in touch if I can't get it to work.... Wink

I am assuming you have your port forwarding/firewall setup for accessing your system outside your network....correct?

Your RSS reader should be able to sort your feed into the order you want.

When you said WAN address did not work....did you just leave the config file setting for WAN to true or did you change it to false and add your dydns name?

I will try WMP.....don't use it as it will not stream a file that is not completely downloaded so that could be part of your problem....VLC will start playing a file even though it is not totally downloaded whereas VLC will play as it gets the data to play.

I will also remove the VLC link if you do not have it installed....that is why there is the comment about it being configed on the gbpvr server......

Then perhaps I mis-understood the function of the Season_Recordings.xml, which I thought would give me all the completed recordings sorted by show. Now I understand that it is just an XML listing of what shows are set to record automatically. Therefore, nothing to download. That works for me.

I do hope that you can get the dynamic asp page working. I would like to do something like /rss.asp?show=er to obtain a RSS feed of recorded "ER" episodes. "ER" has been problematic on the search page, so perhaps you could use the ID of the season recording.

From my limited experience of RSS, items are typically sorted by date in descending order. (I recently build an RSS web app in CFMX, but do not generally use RSS readers). I would like to see the default as descending, but would also like a URL parameter to specify sort order. My intended use is to import this feed into an UPnP media server which will sort things internally and out of my control (possibly just taking it how it is recieved). If possible, it would be very good for me if category tags can me added specifying the show name ("ER" for example) and the associated genre's (movie, comedy, etc.) Also note that you can make an RSS feed of RSS feeds (not sure many know this), thus you can have a season recordings feed chain down to feeds of the episodes of each show. The UPnP media server I use will traverse that chain.

I test with WMP as that gives a good indication if the file will work in the UPnP server. Mostly I watch on the TV, but if I do watch on the computer I browse to the network share and have WMP play it from there; no download required.

I have been avoiding setting up VLC, but this might be the motivation to do so. I'll have to see if my UPnP server would prefer that.

I do have port forwarding enabled, and the WAN IP should work. I suspect that I tested this after crashing the recording service, so it didn't work. Anyway, I got it configured to use my dnydns address and that works fine for the most part. Though I suspect it is now routing traffic through the router at 100 MB instead of the 1 GB of my LAN. A URL parameter to set the file location (host name) would be appreciated, defaulting to the setting in the config.

I suppose that if I just rolled up my sleeves and installed the .net IDE then after a bit of learning I could contribute to this effort. I know you have all the required data and that this can be done. I do very much appreciate the work you have put in already. When it went on the wish list, I was happy and willing to wait. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Again, thank you!

Mime type should be "text/xml".

Ok....lets give this version a try.....

Links no longer are available for non recorded shows.
Batch config now execepts port.....
Batch config now excepts filter option to only genrerate one type of RSS file

rss.aspx page/code is now included for real-time rss generation.

url: http:\\localhost:7647\gbpvr\public\rss.aspx?filter=

Where filter = one of the following:
pending
completed
failed
conflict
season
deleted
in-progress

Let me know how this works....seems ok on my system.

You're incredibly fast, I'm glad I checked back in. I'll give this a whirl today or tommorrow when I'm home and have a few cycles. Thanks again!

Thunderbird hangs when trying to verify the rss feed. Not sure what's up it acts like it sees the feed (the wrong address times out quickly) and the progress bar fills up and then it hangs and never verifies the feed. Anyone else see this?

IE 7.0 found them no problem so I'm sure the addresses are ok.

Using IE 7.0 to display the feed the dates all show up at the same time for pending recordings. I looked in the xml file and there is a pubdate field that I would have thought would have allowed IE to sort by date and show the recordings in order that they will occur. This isn't the case. Is there a different field that IE is looking for to sort by date?

Thanks very much for this! It's very useful, but can I make a request?

I'm using this to monitor for recording conflicts. Most of the time there aren't any, and the RSS feed then returns an empty file -- for which my RSS alert tool just reports an error.

If there are no entries in a list, could you return a single entry something like "No conflicts" (or "Nothing Pending" or "Nothing Deleted", etc.)?

Thanks.

Worse, when I try to add the URL for filter=conflict to the Wizz RSS reader it says the URL "seems to be invalid" -- presumably because nothing is returned by the server.
