I've had a request to use srt subtitle files while transcoding on the fly with ZProcess. As I don't use subtitles, I've pretty much tuned that type of discussion out when scanning the forums...

What type of commandlines would I use to inject an SRT file into FFmpeg, MEncoder or VLC?

Thank you

Frank

VLC should autodetect the srt file if it has the same name as the source video file. If not, you can use the --sub-file= command line option to force it use a specific file. It should then combine the subtitles into the output stream/file. I've used this feature to successfully play an avi with an associated srt file.

To transcode the subtitles, I think you may also need
--sout-transcode-soverlay (or Confusedout=#transcode{soverlay} - whichever you prefer).

You could also take a look at MVPRecode.... It does the same thing with Mencoder...

The XML-file should give you some nice clues on how to do this...

(I wrote it myself, but it's over a year ago and I since stopped using the MVP, so I don't know from the top of my head anymore....)

When playing the file manually with gui, it detects just fine. I think I have to be specific. I think you're hints are going to help...
