Quote:What resolution should I have for the tv-out then before I putz with the xml file ?

Depends on where you are in the world (PAL vs. NTSC; if you're not sure which you are, there's a map at the top of the page mentioned below) and the shape of your TV. Go to the following link, scroll all the way to the bottom, and that will give you common resolutions. Also, I'm sure you've already done it but I mention it anyway, make sure you set the correct aspect ratio for your TV in the gbpvr config utility (4:3 or 16:9).

Oh, yeah. I guess it would help if I put in the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC

Greetings great helpers Smile

Work has had me too busy the last few days but want to get on here and post and update of where I think I am right now.

All channels play at about broadcast quality (except for channel 2). I'm sure I will be playing with the mpeg decoders shortly. As for the channel 2 problem I am not sure it's any one component though cause it is only one channel. There are a couple of other local channels that come in just great. So odd Sad

As for the stuttering, I realized that it was due to my using time shifting at the time. So changing channels I saw the timeshift function kicking in. In LiveTV it's quick and no problems Smile

I haven't had the time to play with the resolution or the xml file but will have a 4 day weekend (barring any pages from work). OH and btw I know I am NTSC and have the config set for 4x3 (which is my tv set shape). So from the link provided I see that I should set to 480 lines but not sure how many horizontal pixels. I saw patro's thought that his is 720x576 but not sure of his setup.

I have purvideo so will load that and check that out. I am still reseaching graphic cards (cause I am thinking that it would take some of the load off the mb and probably be better than the mb tv-out).

I have to say the community support here is tremendous and a great help. THANKS!!!!!

Mine is set at 720x576. Ideally I would set it up as 720x480 (NTSC 4:3) but that made the picture look like it was too tall and narrow. Pressing f7 would fix the aspect ratio being out of whack but would never fill the screen width wise. I didn't feel like messing with it and when 720x576 worked perfectly I went with that.

As for the MB video. I would replace it if the quality wasn't acceptable. If the picture is as good as broadcast you can't get any better than that.

I ended up taking a few minutes to look at why 720x480 didn't work right and I noticed a post from sub that said:
sub Wrote:in the nvidia decoder settings, make sure you have the aspect ratio control set to 'anamorphic'
Mine wasn't set this way. I set it to anamorphic and it works at 720x480 correctly now. I don't think the picture looks any better though. CPU cycles are pretty good at around 25% CPU usage.

Well I finally got home from work and did a little diddling Big Grin

I am now at 720x480 and the channels look great except for channel 2.

I put gbpvr into window mode and looked at the status.

Now I remember at the begining that I scanned the channels and then was doing it again and halted it. So I was thinking that might of done it. So I re-scanned the channels and looked at channel 2 through wintv and win2000. Looks great. But in gbpvr it doesn't.

Now I have two pvr150's (1 regular and 1 mce). Channel 2 sucks when livetv is on pvr150mce. For the life of me though I can not seem to get livetv through the other pvr150 to see if it's that.

You can't really force it to one tuner or the other but I think if you were to look at live tv on another channel and hit the record button, then you would have the other tuner only. Start watching live tv on channel 2 and you got it.

EDIT: I think this will work assuming that livetv is showing up on mce tuner.

If one works and the other doesn't try switching the cables, maybe you can isolate the issue.

I read somewhere that gbpvr uses the tuners from the top down for recordings & from the bottom up for live tv.

All I do when I want to see (check out) what a particular tuner (I have 5 tuners) is looking like is go into config & 'un-tick' a channel (in your case channel 2) from the other cards, this way gbpvr only has the tuner that you leave enabled available for displaying live tv.

Great tip Smile

I did that and channel 2 on the other tuner looks alot better but definately not the same as all the other channels.

Now if only I could be sure which tune that win2000 uses. Cause the one that it does use right now looks very sharp.

I am wondering if the pvr150 driver is what the root cause is.
