Odd resolution switch on MVP?

Hello,

I've got a bit of an odd problem at the moment, and I've been unable to find any solution other than rebooting the MVP every time the problem occurs and reloading the dongle, which is a bit of an inconvenience.

Using the latest GBPVR version and my MVP, randomly when I go to play another video, the video is all stretched on the television, with the edges going off the side, as if the MVP was playing the video in widescreen mode or something (and stretching the video to 16:9, but instead having the sides cut off as my television is 4:3).

One video it is fine, I return to the menu, go to play another, and the picture is stretched with the sides cut off. It's difficult to explain, so I hope this makes sense. The onscreen interface also changes slightly, although not as much - it seems to move over to the left slightly, as the right ends up with a small black bar down the side which isn't there before the problem occurs.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated

I have seen this happen on occasion, and the fix has been to unplug the MVP and then plug it back in. I think the cause has to do with playing video of different resolutions because I have seen it happen more frequently when I have recorded and watched a bunch of stuff at "low quality" then watched a video at "medium quality" and noticed everything looked zoomed in.
If unplugging does not fix it then you may have it stuck in 16x9 mode, only way that I know of to change it back to 4x3 is with the Hauppauge software.

it's caused by playing videos that are 352xXXX which it has to zoom, but when playing another file with say,720xXXX it can't unzoom...
notice 352x2 = 704 not 720 so it stays in 704x mode and makes 720 looks bigger than screen...

to prevent this from happening, change your 'low' profile to 480x480 and it won't have this problem...
the vertical res. doens't have this problem cuz all valid mpeg dvd sizes are either 240 or 480 [exact double] where horizontal can be 320,352,704,or 720...
[no common divisor,except 2]

Well, your explaination seems plausible, but only I have a problem - this MVP only plays content which is treamed to it via VLC, and VLC is set to size every video to the same resolution - when they are streamed as an mpg file to the computer, no matter what I'm playing, it is always the same resolution, so the MVP should never need to zoom on some and not on others. Any other ideas?

I suggest having the MVP set to 16:9 mode regardless of the actual Television aspect ratio.

But really I think that your problem is one we have all seen. It's that silly overscan issue where the only thing that will solve it, at least temporarily, is a complete power cycle of the MVP... (cold boot)
