Afaik ffmpeg can transcode mkv, I don't know if sub has implemented the on the fly transcoding for mkv-files (I guess not :o ).
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

Unfortunately I dont think it'll start the required transcode if you try to play a .mkv file. It'll probably choke on it.

Oki thanks for the reply. Got 2more questions then.
Sub is it something you think will be implanted into gbpvr? Second question is if i would use MyVideos plugin and put the file extension in there is there anyway i can put in the ffmpeg rutine for it to transcode then? ps. Awsome program Sub =)

Quote:Sub is it something you think will be implanted into gbpvr?I'll add it to the list of extensions run through ffmpeg in the next release. This will means transcoding though, which is always a lot poorer than native file types (MPEG1, MPEG2). I downloaded a sample file, couldn't get it transcoded by ffmpeg though.:o
So it seems it's not that simple. What I've read is that mkv (matroska) is just a container for about everything you want. So I think it's quite posible that it was just this particular file that gave ffmpeg trouble. It seemed to me that ffmpeg choked on the aac-sound of it. When I've time I'll do some more investigation. Unless someone else can clear this up ofcourse.

Hi,
I wanted to see if any work has been done to make MKV work when viewing videos on GBPVR/MVP. From what I can tell, when playing the files, they don't even make it to the Trans2MVP.bat file. If it did, I was going to try to customize that file to use ffmpeg to parse out the MKV correctly. So far, I can use ffmpeg to create avi files out of the MKVs using the following command: ffmpeg -i filename.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec copy filename.avi I can play those avi files on my system, but would rather not go thru that process if GBPVR can handle them by default. Additionally, a lot of these new MKV files have a subtitle track bundled with it instead of written directly to the video. I found another program that with extract those subtitles to a srt file. Is there anyway to get GBPVR to read this file, especially if I am playing an avi from my video library? Thanks! Jonathan

I did recently add "mkv" to the list of file extensions automatically transcoded so it should work for you. I cant remember whether it was included in 1.1.5 or added soon after.
If it doesnt work on a vanilla v1.1.5 install, then try looking for a more recent pvrx2.exe patch (there are quite a few in various posts).

You added it for me (thanks) at this link so any afterwards should be good
here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=30538 I still have that problem with the logs. In one way this works better than one the PCH since ffmpeg does the DTS conversion and my receiver doesn't support DTS. Martin |
