I've tried it multiple times now and, every time I install EWA, I just end up with the default web admin.
It's very odd. I've followed the directions exactly. I deleted all files and folders in \web folder EXCEPT Bin. Next I deleted AjaxPro2.dll, Rss.dll and ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll from the web\bin folder. Unzipped the gbweb-enhanced.v60.zip file contents to the web folder. I was NOT prompted to overwrite any files.
I then refreshed my web admin at http://localhost:4666/gbpvr/index.aspx and logged back into config.
Each time I get the the same screen. I want to config vlc to stream my recordings. The default web admin does everything else I need, but I can't get video to stream. Music streams fine, but my videos just open a vlc player and it remains blank.

Any ideas? I know I'm missing something really simple, So I feel kinda dumb asking. I've just tried so many times to do this over the past couple months, I've broken down to asking for help :-)

The only thing I can think of is did you FIRST STOP the GBPVR recording service, then righ click the TrayIcon and choose close, THEN installed the EWA? btw missing a web in that path above... ? C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\web\index.aspx ?

Is it possible that you're missing a video decoder? Can you play the video on the PC without using VLC?

You should unzip to the gbpvr folder. The web folder is part of the path of the zipped files.

Try turning your firewall off as a test.

Have you entered your VLC information on the Config tab of EWA......you will not see the stream option until you have filled on the VLC location in the config tab of EWA......once you do that then you shoud see the stream button availble with the download and play buttons that are standard.

i.e. Mine is set to c:\program files\videolan\vlc\

Note that you need to include the \ at the end of the directory location.

Let me know.

Thanks for the replies. jksmurf. I did shut down both the recording service and the trat icon. I even went so far as to run task manager and shut down all gbpvr and slimmgbpvr executables.
Hakras, it plays just fine locally. I can log into the stream on the pvr computer and watch videos through vlc without a problem. It's streaming to other PC's or to a remotely connected PC that doesn't work. Even though the remote PC's have vlc installed and they DO bring up a video window. The window just stays blank and never displays anything. The received stream is detected as video, but it never streams. Then again, this is using the standard GBPVR web interface, so I'm not surprised.
Pastro, I'm a Winrar user, but I'll download a trial of Winzip and try it using that. I've had weirder things happen before. I'll let you know about. Firewall IS off.
Uncle, the configuration location for VLC is OK, but, again, I'm looking at it using the standard GBPVR web interface and not the EWA.
Thanks all for gthe help so far, and I'll keep hammering away at it.
Winzip, here I come.

As a note GBPVR native web admin is the same as EWA....it just may be a few builds behind what is available here....streaming has been around since build 40ish so using the standard out-of-the-box web admin vs. the version available here should not make a difference. You can always see what version of EWA is shipping with GBPVR via the wiki.

So you are able to attach to the stream on the pc hosting GPBVR....correct? Opening a video via VLC on the GPBVR pc is not the same as recieving the stream so we need to make sure that you are able to see the stream when you are on the host pc....i.e. http:localhostConfusedtreamport/

Post a screen shot of your vlc config setting so I can see what your transcode options are set to.

Do you have your streamer port open on the host pc as well as the client pc? What port are you uing for streaming?

I was just commenting that you were unzipping to the web dir(in a previous post) and you should be unzipping to the gbpvr dir. I use winrar to unzip all the time, I don't think that is an issue.

Quick note. I'm not at my pvr system to grab a screenshot, but I'll add that as soon as possible.
Uncle, I DO get the stream to open on the local gbpvr system. I know it's different than jsut locally opening the recorded files. Thanks for confirming that, though, because that could be easily misunderstood from my descriptions so far.
After reloading several dozen times, I'm STILL at the default gbpvr web interface, but now, for some reason, my LOCAL network can see and use the stream. The streaming video opens in my local network when I go to my web interface, but I still can't see streaming video outside my network.
I've got the proper port open (I'm using 4666) to connect to the gbpvr web interface screen from anywhere on the internet. I can see the TV guide and change all the settings from a remote location. I've never had a problem with that part of the web interface. So I know the connection is working and the default web interface is working.
I'll try to open the stream remotely and just get a vlc video window open, but no stream. Now could this be bandwidth or compression related?
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong location and need to somehow configure vlc for streaming. I'm just lost on why I get a vlc video window to open remotely, but it just remains blank no matter how long I leave the 'stream' open. It gets weirder when I can open all my audio stuff and play that from remote locations without a problem. I would have thought vlc was streaming the audio as well. Is Media player streaming the audio and vlc the video?

Ok...to recap....
  • Streaming on the local network is now fine.
  • Streaming outside your network (WAN) is not working.
  • General EWA web usage (Guide, Mange Recordings, etc.) works outside of your network (WAN) without issue.
  • You have configured EWA to use port 4666 for general EWA functions.
Now the questions:
  • What port did you configure for streaming?
    • It should be a different port then then used for EWA itself.
  • Did you open the port and forward the streaming port like you did for the general EWA port?
