I just bought one and was wondering what the consensus is on which dongle to use? I'm on 99.12 and from what i've read that would seem to lead to trouble. Please share your opinions so I'll know where to start.

I consider myself Mr. Default I'm not sure what type of problems you are talking about. Probably incompatibilities with mods or non default activity.

I find the current dongle to be the best yet, faster, and cheaper ( only $0 )

Big Grin

I think what Pastro means is the suddenly non responsive remote.
some went back to the 98.13 dongle, I'm using the latest beta dongle.
Once in a while the remote stops resonding but not as much as with the 99.12 dongle.
the beta dongle is (almost) as fast as the 99.12 one concerning menu response time afaik.

I was referring to the rebooting and the remote not responding as the trouble that I have read about. Both of those sound painful when trying to train the kids how to get it going when there are problems. I have a feeling my 1.8 GHz Celeron may not be up to the task of running the MVP and one direct connected TV at the same time but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

It seems like there are a couple options.

Use the beta dongle from Hauppauge.
Use Subs latest dongle.
Use MVPMC dongle.

That doesn't include running an older version of GBPVR that the consensus seems to indicate was more stable for the MVP. I'd prefer to not go backwards since GBPVR has to me been more stable and had better features as we have moved forward.
Appreciate the insights. Thanks.

There are 4 Hauppauge dongles you should consider in my preferred order with 99.12

1.1.52 included in 99.12 (Only Hauppauge choice for Vista)

1.1.50 ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/mediamvp/m....24338.exe

1.1.51 http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/..._25032.exe

1.1.49 ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/mediamvp/m...24257b.exe or in older versions of gbpvr.

Earlier versions don't support inset video.

If these don't work for you then I would suggest trying the mvpmc dongle.

When I'm not testing Martin's, I'm using 1.1.51 (works well btw) http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...p_33_25032.exe ...

It's even on Hauppauge Page ... as a beta :-)

Thanks for the tips guys. Hopefully with a little luck I'll get the ethernet strung this weekend and get it all tested out.

I assume by 'Subs latest dongle' you mean the dongle from the latest gbpvr distribution. Not his own latest gbmvp dongle?

For the latter I have a question to SUB: Do you consider taking up that project again in the future? Or should we focus om the mvpmc dongle that Martin Vallevand is developing for GBPVR? It looks like an interesting development even though it is not yet as good for me as the dongle that came with 0.99.5

Cat5e. I'm still 100 based, but 5e should work for gigabit when I get there.

I meant the one that is in the dongle dir. Isn't that one from Hauppauge?
