Hi I'm trying out ML2 and have troubles with the collections.

In the config, I have added the following paths:

d:\music\mp3\
d:\music\mp3\classical
d:\music\mp3\jazz
etc...

and then, for each of these subdirectories, I've created a collection.

In the interface, I see default all my music, but when I select a collection, it shows no entries at all. Did I miss a step or so?

no I dont think you did.

I've just tried on mine and got similar. But then once in one of mu collections I did a library update and my tracks showed up.

Probably not the way it should work.....

ok, I tried that: selected a collection (showing no tracks), went in the menu and did library update, but still, no tracks shown in the collection

Ok. So in mine I had the system one it had:
H:\Music
C:\Documents and settings etc

Then under collections I had
Mus with C:\documents and settings

When i switched to Mus collection and did an update, the tracks showed up.

Does your look similar? One other thing you can try is I dont think you have to have all the paths in the system area.

You should be able to create a new collection (mus again) and not select any paths.

Then click on the mus collection and add a path...maybe try that since you have got three collections created..

ok, I tried from scratch again and then started by adding just 2 paths (\mp3\classic and \mp3\jazz), and 2 collections, and yes, it works. great.

But then, i tried adding my main music directory (\mp3) to see if this was the culprit, and now the plugin has disappeared ! also in the config utility ! Yet, the dll's are present in the plugin directory? What is wrong now?

I deleted the ml2 database, tried from scratch again and now it works

could this have caused the error?

Possibly.

I normally set mine up (but only for testing) with completely seperate drives/directories for the collections. I'd never tried adding the root drive like you did.

Maybe theres a bug in there somewhere, I can't think why it would get confused though.

it works now, very happy about it, because this collection concept is really great. So far I have been working with file based navigation through my mp3's because I hated seeing classical music mixed up with rockmusic in tag based systems. But this collection concept really solves the issue.

thanks !
