Skip controls - which setting do you use?

Hi there.
I just started using GBPVR and MediaPortal, and must choose between one of them. GBPVR is more faster and stable than MediaPortal, but as I see it, has one important thing lacking, which is the lack of a fast forwarding feature. This part is a lot better implemented in MediaPortal.

The GBPVR default skip control setting is not very useful, so I wanted to know how other users have configured it. Or if there is another viable alternative to improve matters (like using another video playback plugin or external app).

I think most people use the default settings (which is, IIRC, "use short skip instead of ff/rwd", with a 10 second skip. And a 1 minute skip forward time, and 30 seconds skip back time. If you press "5" and skip, 5 minutes will be skipped instead of 1. This is not exactly the same as fast forward, but works fairly well, in my opinion.

The problem is that most video decoders seem to handle fast forward badly - they either lose audio synch, or lose audio completely. You might find one that works better at this aspect though.

I have been trying FF/RW on my MPV instead of short skip. It seems to work much better than on the server connected to my other TV. I suppose it does not suffer from the same video decoder issue. Is there a way to have short skip on the main computer and FF/RW on the MPV?
