Greetings

I've noticed that there isn't a thread about amplifiers and with the idea that so many have multiple tuners it seems that many use them. So i'm wondering what everyone uses ? with what characteristics ? how do you use them ?

Are you talking about tv boosters? if so i use them to spilt the source and amplify the signal as I have 9 devices running of 1 aerial. Without them I might manage 3 devices without running into issues with signal strength.
i have commited the ultimate sin through I have a booster running off another booster which is a no no but it works for me, otherwise I you have to put another aerial up on the roof which would cost a fortune.

One is a slx knock off with adjustable boost, and the other is a masterplug 4 way splitter.

I've had very good performance from a 3x8 amplified splitter module from OnQ

Because of poor quality, the cable company installed a Electroline EDA 2010 in my house over ten years ago, and it is going strong. It did make a huge difference.

Note if you get the HVR 1600 you will need two feeds one for standard cable and one for QAM, if you are thinking of a distribution amp. Make sure you get one for current cable you don't want to filter the high frequencies.

How ironic! I was just going to start looking at getting a signal amp for my OTA stuff. Seems I have 2 channels that sometimes come in and sometimes don't (HD) (after putting in a 3 way splitter) - I'm hoping a signal amp will do the trick.

Question: Can I boost the signal and then split it, or do I have to get one of the (more expensive) home distribution units?

I have an SLX8 powered booster/splitter. It has UHF and FM inputs and any of the 8 outputs can be used for either. It also has a separate 'pass-through' output for feeding other (remote) SLX devices.

Cheers,

I use a couple of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Channel-Master-4-o...B000GGFXW8

They seem to work well for boosting & splitting my cable signal. I got one off eBay and found another on sale at Lowes for about half price.

You can use a single output amp into a splitter. I did that with an old Radio Shack antenna amp for quite a while before it stopped working.

I have had good performance from the channel master amps too, I use two of the two output ones.
