Jeff,
I have been a big fan of VA for years now. I recently redid my PC for the first time since I put GBPVR on it (2½ years) VA has always worked even though I have had issues with finding videos in it.
Now I cannot get any version to run correctly and now it just hangs at "please wait". I am running 99.12, what is the best procedure to start from scratch with VA and what version should I use for best bet on getting it to function?

Also I think I have asked this in the past, but I don't remember the answer. I really don't want to use the DVD listing part at all and it seems to move some shows into that list. Is there a way to prevent that, or to edit a db to move them back as shows? I almost depend on using VA to help resolve conflicts and help me decide which shows to cancel. The archive function is great, but I can get by manually without it by using the import function in config.exe and MpegImport to create xml file. I also don't want to retrieve any info or folder pics, just mainly view pending recordings by show name.

thanks again!

Are you running one of the most recent versions of VA?

I've been through an upgrade myself in steps. Consolidating to one raid-5 volume from several drives and a few weeks later migrated to a new XP install.

In my experience it takes a loooong time initially for it to reconcile the library (but i DO have a large one I admit :o ). Have you been patient enough?

Also, the new version tries to extract a folder.jpg for all folders without one using ffmpeg. That takes out massive system ressources until it is done, which could also delay the completion of VA initialisation.

You can obviously see if it is ffmpeg in the task manager.

But then again, you probably have already thought about all of this Rolleyes :o

I have all 3 check boxes deselected Set as default, auto-fetch, scan for files on startup. I don't know if I have ffmpeg installed since rebuild. I really don't need it for anything. I'll check... I'm strictly a MVP user for watching. I use the "Console" gbpvr for maintaining schedules, conflicts...

ffmpeg is in the gbpvr 3rd party folder. When at the please wait screen nothing seems to be happening. ffmpeg is not running. plus the screen saver is kicking in and upon exiting gbpvr is back at the main menu. I'm turning off the screen saver now...

Can you post the logs from the jeff subdirectory? Also, did you save your video archive database from before the rebuild? If not you will loose lots of information about shows unless you still have all your recordings also defined in the gbpvr database.

And, one last question. Are you using the test version or the released version? At this point I think the test version is more stable and I beleive the released version may have had some serious problems with building lists for first-time users.

I don't care if I lose info, just so the files are accessible. All shows are in the GBPVR database already.

I can post logs, I'll have to remote into that PC, but there is noting in them other than weather info. They don't update while hung at please wait.

I have tried many versions, not real sure which one is in right now.

I had 3.1 I removed it, deleted everything in the jeff folder. I installed the test version dated 5/31/2007. It hung, I saw in one log it detected a db already there, I deleted the videoarchive.db and re ran it. It is currently at please wait it is 5:58 and nothing inthe logs since launching it.

This means the plug-in didn't see itself in the list of enabled gbpvr plug-ins the the config.xml file and skipped the rest of the initialization related to defining and filling the lists of files. Is it enabled in config.xml?

Jeff

I remember a while back, It wasn;t showing up on screen, but would on config.exe. I'll check. How should it be listed in config.xml?
