Hi all-

Here's my sysem (just completed building):

amd 3000 939
asus a8v
512 ballistix ram
fx5200
80gb and 120gb hdd
hauppauge pvr-150
nero burning rom 6
gb-pvr
win-tv
etc.

anyway, i'm working on getting this all figured out, and i need a lot of help. i've been doing a lot of research, but i'm worried i'm not using my time wisely. here's what i want:

i'd like to use my computer as a pvr. i'd like to be able to record television shows, then author dvd's containing the shows. i would like (if possible) to fit at least 3-4 hours of television on one dvd (if the quality isn't complete crap in doing so).

i've read about a lot of things that i have no idea how to use. comskip seems like something i'd like to look into, but i don't know how it works. also, my ir remote that came with my hauppauge card... it works with wintv, but i don't know how to use it with gb-pvr. basically i don't know how to do any of the above.

can anyone help me, by either directly addressing my questions, or merely pointing me in the right direction? i really appreciate any help i can get.

thanks very much!

Adam,

Your questions seem a little vague... Download and run gbpvr, and start from there. You should be able to do the basics, then if you want to add plugins, you can download those. I've just set this up, and i discovered most answers to my questions by looking through the various posts in these forums.

Good luck!

my system specs arent as nice as yours, but installation was a breeze for me (not like that nasty Media Portal, super bloated.)

Dvd recording info can be found here

from what I have read, the PVR-150 isnt working yet, but I believe it is supposed to be in the next release (which is rumoured to be next week)

Comskip marks the commercials, dvd burning from reven then makes chapters at the commercials. On my remote, I push play when watching a recording to skip them. I assume it will be the same on yours when it is working next release.

good luck! Its great software. Live tv is a bit slow to start, but I don't understand the point of watching live tv on a PVR anyway. But then I have no life so nothing interrupts my viewing and forces me to pause or rewind.

I have it working with the pvr150, however I prefer to use Beyond TV for tv applications...but I launch it from gbpvr.

I have it working like a charm from the 150. DL and install the GBPVR software. On the configuration you will see the 150 in the popup menu. Get your video source attached and you should be good to go. I'd use the 'Low' quality setting on the capture (from within GBPVR when you go to record a show there's a line on which you can choose the quality).

thanks everyone.

here are some more specific questions:

when i record using my hauppauge pvr-150, does it record as mpegII?

i'd like to use nero 6 to burn my dvd's, which shouldn't be a problem, right?

is mpegII the format i need in order to burn dvds?

is low quality enough resolution to capture a decent vcr-quality or better picture?

how can i get my ir remote that came with my card to work with gb-pvr (it only works with win-tv)?

thanks again for your help.

I miswrote.
The PVR-150 works fine for recording
The PVR-150 Remote will not work until next release I believe

dont know about the resolution questions. try one and find out [Image: smile.gif]

nero 6 shouldnt be a problem, its what I would use.

The remote does work in this release, but if you installed any Hauppauge software after GB-PVR, then chances are it has over written the GB-PVR settings.

The next release includes a 'Fix irremote.ini settings' button, which you can use to restore the settings at any time.

yes

nero requires .vob files, and a dvd structure setup. eg \VIDEO_TS so you'll need to use something like dvdauthor to create the file structure. if you use dvdauthor you;ll also have to remux the videos. if you going to do it via a computer and not your pvr, i just another program like dvdlab, which can handle mpeg2 files no problems.

[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]is low quality enough resolution to capture a decent vcr-quality or better picture?
low quality will look better than vhs, but i suggest medium quality, unless you're low on diskspace.

when you install gbpvr, it adds configuration to the hauppauge remote, it then asks you to restart your ir. it then should work.
