Theoretically DVICO will have QAM support soon (ok they keep telling me this) so that could be an option if you found one cheap

DVICO have "kindly" offered to give me technical info in the past for only US$1000. I suspect even when they support QAM in their BDA drivers, that they will still only make available the info in their pricey SDK. I have no plans for paying for this info, so best to work on the assumption there will be no support DVICO QAM anytime in the future.

(does anyone know if can tune 2 QAM channels at once or one analog and one digital)

I remember reading that, I am hoping they are nicer this time. I have been very vocal to them with my disappointment and how they have missed the boat as I see GBPVR viewers run out in droves to get the 1600. Their current driver set is fairly unified and my hope is QAM is just tuned by adding 3000 to the channel number to tune but we will see.

I plan to get the 1600 it seems worth the $60 bucks by far and if I get the DVICO working I have 3 options for unencrypted and two for encrypted so it will be a bonus.

Where did you find the HVR-1600 for $60? It's at least $90 everywhere I've seen, and those are all the older revisions before QAM support was added.

So far, the only source of the QAM capable boards I know of is directly from Hauppauge (about $130!).

Oh, and no set top box here, just basic cable. I signed up for the internet service and basic cable was the same cost as the "Fee" for not taking cable. Why not?

Circuit city has them with a rebate for ~69 (looks like $79 now), although I haven't checked if they were the QAM capable chipset or not,

According to the Circuit City web site:

"Note: ATSC digital TV is NOT digital cable TV or digital satellite TV. The WinTV-HVR-1600 cannot receive digital cable TV or digital satellite TV."

So I'm guessing these are the older, non QAM, tuner cards.

You'd probably have to ask for the Hauppauge product code to know for sure. Just a few weeks back, all Hauppauge HVR1600 were being sold as OTA ATSC only. These new drivers apply to some of those cards, even though they werent being sold as QAM capable devices at the time.

Product codes 74021 and 74041 support QAM, while product codes 74031 and 74551 do not. The product code can be found on the tuner label on WinTV-HVR-1600. The product code is also shown in the pic on the front of the packaging. This does not help if you are ordiring online but if you go to the store it will. You can also check in the store and then do a store pickup from the website.

Actually I think they are QAM capable , Circuit City has the 1600 model 1178 (and we missed an extra twenty bucks off that ended on the 9th) and according to the Hauppage page:

WinTV-HVR-1600 model 1178 product code 74021 is QAM capable.
