I would like to close the system tray icon so that I don't have it running all the time eating up system resources... but without it running I have no way of seeing what I have recording at that moment.

Is there some way I can set the system tray icon to popup in the system tray and show it recording only when it is recording?

The icon isn't what uses system resources, it's the program itself. Hiding the icon would make no real difference to the amount of memory or processor power used as the program would still be loaded and doing what it does.

The only way to free the system resources used by either gbpvrtray.exe or slimmgbpvr.exe is to exit them.

When I right click on the systemtray icon and close it then the process closes and that memory usage disappears. The system tray icon running in the tray has to use resources.

Yes, but when you close the process you lose the functionality of that process. So, for example, it couldn't show an icon in your system tray when a recording starts.

I can write it so my process can hide the icon until a recording starts but the process would still need to be in memory waiting to reshow its icon. Therefore the memory used by the process would still be used.

You should also ignore the memory usage as reported by Task Manager in Windows XP. It reports a different figure than you presume it is. For example, Slimm GBPVR might report over 50 meg of used memory but in reality it's only using a few hundred k.

Rest assured that Slimm GBPVR uses negligible system resources. It will not impact the performance of your system or introduce stutters into recordings.

The only reason not to use it is if you do not want its functionality.

I hope this is clear.

Yes, but IIRC it is only monitoring the recording service so should use minimal resources.

If you close the systemtray what will be monitoring the recording service to do the popup?

Edit: Grrrr beaten to it

Aright, thanks guys. I have it running again.

One last question... is there anway to have SlimmGBPVR icon launch the new UI that has been created, PVRX2?

I understand it isn't the default so it doesn't normally launch... but is there a way for SlimmGBPVR to launch it?
