sub mentioned that he would like developers to migrate from using c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\third party..." as a location for plugins that save data to that location...

As I start looking at rewriting some of my apps, I'd like to know a good default location that would be compatible with XP, MCE and Vista...

I think I would like to have my programs, temp files, and data files all located in the same place...

And out of curiosity, is config.xml and gbpvr.db3 moving their locations?

Yes eventually. I havnt had time to tackle this yet though.

On vista these will probably end up in c:\users\public\gbpvr. XP will probably be the same location, but I need to do some research before commiting to that.

OK. In the meantime I will make the apps portable

what about c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\gbpvr\
there should be a windows variable that points there... I will try to find it

maybe %ALLUSERSPROFILE% ?
%APPDATA% seems to point to a users profile, and there doesnt seem to be one for the common user.

Yes, it will be some environment variable, but I havnt looked into exactly which one gives the path I want yet.
