BTW. Gotta say. I'm very happy. Great job!

Though still grumbling that I had to upgrade. Doubt if that sentiment is going away soon.

For some of us users that need to upgrade XP to MCE, it implies nefarious methods.

It's going to be a lot of fun explaining the upgrade methods exist, out there, on the internet, but we can't help with that step. We all need to keep a lot of distance from that method.

The legit way is to upgrade to the minimum required "Vista Home Premium" which is the first method that uses the MCE interface. But there are a couple of scenarios where upgrade is not possible, and only through a complete install. And then there's the trouble with the Vista bugs, and the higher system requirements... In my case I couldn't do it that way...

We'll just have to say, "here's how: with either Vista or MCE2005. No other version possible" and be done with that...

Thanks! My original reason for doing this was because I had a new laptop that had vista home premium and I figured "Hey I get guide data... but I really like GB-PVR... hmmm..."

I really intended it for when you have a secondary PC that is running an MCE version of windows.

I would not even mention "obtaining" MCE to do this. If someone asks, then we can refer them to google and/or newegg.

[Edit] I agree with this:

Quick question for Canadians. Can someone look and tell me if the following two registry keys match? They do in the US but I want to double check.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\EPG\country
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\EPG\regionTuningCode

Thanks zehd. I tried to become a Canadian but it said my tuner hardware was not compatible. Wink

I added a link to the downloader in the first post. It can be run before the *epg2xmltv.exe

Just run an instance of the downloader then the exporter for each lineup you want.

I also updated the instructions for running the 05 programs from a directory other than \Windows\ehome. The dlls are needed for both the downloader and the exporter.

Enjoy.

Gotta say, I couldn't get it working last night (didn't try too long) and now this morning, I'm not using a MCE computer but I have a couple of questions.

[Ver]EpgDownloader.exe list

What would be the point of this? I suspect this will work AFTER I have already created my settings in MCE. That means during that process, I have already seen and chosen my listings and saved those settings....

[Ver]EpgDownloader.exe Headend

I imagine that this would initiate a manual download of listings data. So that means I could disable the MCE Scheduler Service too (and have NO MCE services running at all, ever)

Sorry if I'm being dense. Just trying to understand, so I can put into perspective when I write the wiki page...

Ok, I have Vista Ultimate running in a VMWare session. That's all I can spare for now for Vista (don't want it on any of my "real" computers, for now).
Now, the thing is that obviously I don't have a tuner there.
Is there a way to full Vista to start updating the tuner stuff?
or maybe someone can export the relevant registry parts, so I can import them, and re-start the media-center, (and only maybe change the postal code)?

thanks

This seems to be working for me OK on VIsta, although I'm waiting to do the import when me guide finishes. I do have the following comments

1. Adding a path to c:\windows\ehome solves this problem
Unhandled Exception: System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL "ehepgdec.dll'

2. The Windows Media Center Scheduler Service needs to be running for the SQL database to be up for VistaEpg2XmlTv

3. I still haven't found a way to net start/stop ehsched without being an administrator.

What, there's no "sudo"? Big Grin
