Obviously this is for North American users only.

Will you be signing up with Schedules Direct at the initial roll out and pricing? Will you stay with them if the pricing does not go down?

Let's assume that the service will provide the exact same reliability and content that Zap2it provided.

I voted that the prices are reasonable. I would not be so fickle as to bail if the prices don't drop.

I would say the proactive thing would be get as many people on board as possible.

If the organization decides to go greedy and keep the money and not lower when there are lots of people, I'm sure we'll know.

We have some fairly decent, high-up informants to 'guide' us...

Groover, I agree that my time is worth something. Maybe not as much as I would like, but something.Big Grin
I would prefer to have something simple and reliable vs free. I haven't stuck with GBpvr because it's free but because it works better than anything else I tried.

I'm sure that I will sign up for this service as soon as it is available.

I'm just waiting to get my line up. My credit card is already registered at PayPal and I just have to click the link, download the data and click OK.

I like the fact that they are using Paypal. I occasionally sell broken carpentry power tools on Ebay and normally have a couple hundred bucks on my paypal account. I've even converted broken nail guns into donations for Gbpvr.

They have updated the Schedules Direct website again. They have a logo now.

"Schedules Direct is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the state of the art in providing low-cost television program guide listings for end-users of Open Source and Freeware applications. Our aim is to build upon the foundation that Tribune Media Services has created with their DataDirect product and utilize our expertise in web services and database design to bring that information to a wider audience."

I like the sound of that "build upon the foundation" comment.

There is a ton of cool things they could do that Zap2It never did.

The weather and theater info that is currently being scraped could be provided by SD as well as full movie trailers, in depth movie descriptions etc.

Having additional information would be great and would provide a nice differentiator from the other methods.

That would be sweet. I admit I never pursued any of the metadata scraper utilities simply because I did not want to get used to the extra information. I would definitely be interested in a consistent data service, though.

When I start paying for the EPG I'll feel a lot better about requesting new stuff added to the stream. Wink
