After sorting out the 'repeat channel' and the UpdateEPG.bat issues - YahooXMLTv is working beatifully.
I found Jim's I-xmltv 'enhancement' and have it working as well. Both bits are a very clever collaboration and a good solution to the expiration of Zap2It.

Just click each of the buttons in order, top down... It should import the channels in the correct order, that is... the VERY order that the schedule was downloaded in...

Subsequently found and installed the ZToolsSupportSoftware and the VB6 package -- same result when running ZSchedfix.exe

Found the thread for ZSchedFix -- found the 1.0.23 version
Unpacked and the OLD ZScedFix started up with no errors (I did not click the "Purge and Rebuild" however )

Then reverted to the newer version and NO GO (same Runtime error '5' )


Can you deduce from all this what I have either not done or done incorrectly?

Not quite. GB-PVR requires tuner cards (mostly) and they aren't free. Then there's the cost of the cable/dish etc... Sure there are all sorts of ways to get around paying but most are not legal.

It is illegal to use a scraper.

But seriously, if only a hundred people join, the service will likely fail. If it fails, you will be at the mercy of scrapers, and they are not reliable. And in a real sense, GB-PVR will be in jeopardy.

The more people who pay, the less the price will be... And there would be less people joining if there were free alternatives.

BTW, don't expect the free ride to keep going either way you choose. It's so easy to gum up the works from the web site side, it's crazy... one little tag...

Actually, I was talking specifically about GBPVR, the software. Of course you need cards, cable, etc., but the whole point of apps like GBPVR, and others like it, is that they are free. Although I do donate now and then, I still call it free software. Using Y! Go! is not at all illegal. I loaded their software, I've met the criteria. I pretty much won't pay for EPG data until there are no other options. I'm betting a lot of other people feel the same way.

In rural Alberta, (and probably many places elsewhere) you can buy 'Purple Gas' (a dyed gasoline) if you are a Farmer. It's subsidized by the government and the gasoline is quite a bit cheaper.

People will fill up their Farm Truck's both tanks with the Purple Gas, and then siphon it to fill their personal vehicles. This is illegal.

If you download and use the free Yahoo software, but somehow, convert, export, or scrape the data from that software and use it elsewhere, even for personal use, you are violating copyright law.

Just as downloading Torrents of commercial Television and Movies, and Music MP3s is illegal. Just as copying a VHS movie is illegal.

This is not gray, it's black and white. And well documented. The fact that you probably won't get caught if it's just for personal use, does not make this legal.

Go ahead and do what you wish. But everyone should know when they're speeding through a school zone, claiming their dog as a dependent for their taxes, using purple gas in their personal car, or downloading and consuming copyrighted material, they're breaking the law.

And no one should go about that and feel they're justified to do so. If you're going to do it, at least acknowledge it by keeping a low profile...

That's why most of us do not tolerate warez and torrentz site discussion here on the GB-PVR forum...

And to be clear, I'm not directing any of these statements to anyone in particular, nor am I making accusations.

If after a person is informed, knows their rights, and non-rights, decides to break the law, and still doesn't feel guilty, it is no longer any of my business...

I hear what you are saying and don't completely disagree with you. I'm not advocating any type of illegal activity but until this new pay service popped up nobody really cared to talk about "legalities" of the EPG data tools being developed. What I don't like about this new pay service is that the pricing won't be decided until the membership demographics are collected. I'd be a lot more inclined to sign up if a flat rate of $25 to $40 a year was set from the very beginning. Perhaps I am just a very untrusting person but I don't like the dangling carrot of "we *may* reduce the price as membership increases". $60 a year is too much in my opinion, and there is a good chance that it will not be reduced from that. My point is, and maybe completely wrong, that people that are already happy with the free tools will likely not pony up the $15 "test" fee. I guess I'll just hang around and see ...

Actually I think you are allowed to make a backup for personal use. Also I don't think that downloading something off the net is always illegal. I'm not saying it's right, I just don't think it's been shown to be illegal.
Using Bittorrent has been shown to be illegal because you are distributing copyrighted content by the nature of how P2P works.
The copyright police at my house (kids) keep me pretty honest.
My impression is that copyright law is enforced for distribution, especially for profit.
