mixed mode for music

My music collection is stored in the following two-level directory structure (I guess most people do it that way):

Artist
+- Album
| +- 01 Song
| | etc
etc

In the Artist and Album directories I have images of the artist or the album cover. For navigation I therefore use the thumbnail mode. However, when navigating the songs I find the thumbnail mode not very intuitive, because there are no images to show and the thumbs seem like a waste of space. Here I always use the list mode. I thus have to switch between the modes when going from albums to songs.

It would be nice if this was done automatically, meaning that a switchover to list mode is performed as soon as a directory does not contain any subdirectories.

If I missed an option that already supports this or can achieve this in another manner, please let me know.

i had a play around a while back music library 2
music player i think was the other one havent got around to playing with that part yet waiting for the new version to settle

I'd love to see this option but for Recordings.
ie. You see the list mode for the "folders" of recordings, scroll down to "The Simpsons" and select it. Then I see all The Simpsons episodes ready to watch with the thumbnail automatically displayed. That might be nice...

The old "My Music" plugin used to do this; I had a top level list view:

some band
another band
and another band

- and when I selected a band it then showed the larger list view, with a thumbnail for every album cover.

It looked really slick, and I miss it... Sad
