I think circuit City just fired everyone & hired all young people to work in their stores to save money.

I used to go to Circuit city because they had the distinction of not being Best Buy with kids bugging you all the time.

Oh well.

My last Worst Buy purchase was a laptop. They give quite a hard sell for the extended warranty, accessories, bags, etc. Awful.

Do what I did when I bought my 42" sony at Circuit City. I had seen the set advertised online for about 50 dollars less than the price in the store. I asked the salesman about that and also in almost the same breath I agreed to take the extended warranty. Big bucks for the warranty like maybe $300.00 but I agreed and he and his manager were happy to match the online price and help me get loaded up.

The next morning I stopped by on my way to a job and got a refund for the warranty in about 45 seconds no questions asked.Big Grin

Does it seem to get exceptionally hot before it turns off?

nitrogen_widget Wrote:I also paid $3 for my Svideo cable at Big Lot's. RCA gold plated mesh sheilding. Those make a significant difference over the S-video cable that came with the DVD player.

Paying $20 for svideo is crazy to me.

He's kind-of a jerk though so I think he goes to besy buy just so he can do that.

svideo cables can make a difference if you get better ones as they are analog especially if they are longer than 1.5m

hdmi yes digital either they work or they dont but it does not affect the quality of the picture

tipstir Wrote:What about Circuit City they're pretty good when you buy and return stuff. They used to sell MediaMVPs with $20 bucks rebates so you would end up spending $79 for them.

I stopped going to Circuit City years ago because the sales people would not leave me alone for long enough to browse. There would usually be a pack of them just inside the store entrance. One would jump on you as soon as you walked in and then follow you around the store.

I bought a digital camera for my girlfriend at CC last Christmas and something seemed to have changed. Was a much better experience.

A popular topic!

In the Uk it's the purple shirts at PC World. mostly useless.

I went into Curry's to look at LCDs last December. They had about 50 screens all receiving a DVB (freeview) signal though a piece of wet string. the picture (on all of them) was terrible.

I said to an assistant, "the picture's not much good"

"no, it's the signal"

"so how can I tell which one gives the best picture"

"well they're pretty much all the same"

"are they? err..ok, so if I take it home and don't like the picture, can I bring it back?"

"no"

"great. bye....."

bought a second hand WS 100Hz pano CRT for £100 instead.

difference between el cheapo svideo --> scart cable and £50 cable I got for £25 was night and day.

I guess these sales guys are all the same no matter where you go (worldwide)
About 7 yrs ago we needed a new TV set. One of the shops over here is a country wide chain of stores, There we were already knowing we wanted a "normal" CRT but I was looking at a 32" LCD out of curiousity and some clip-on tie guy came up and started ramblin about how cool a flat screen TV would look in the living room. I told him that the cable signal in Holland is crap and didn't want to see all the faults in the signal on my screen and by the time we would all go digital in a couple of years, I would probably needed a new set anyway. This was besides the fact these LCD TV's were way to expensive at that time.
The clip-on guy told me in that case I should really change my cabels, because it all looked perfect to him from where he was standing, while showing some demo DVD.
I could also consider a plasma screen. Well, dealing with plasma screens at that time on a day to day basis, I told him I already had central heating in the house, these things consume energy like it's for free, the amount of burninghours of the screens were not so good and I didn't like burned-in station logo's. That kept him quiet for long enough to tell him I wanted that (pointing to a special offer 32" widescreen JVC CRT) TV set. Payed, thanked him for all the kind advice and had it delivered within the next 3 hrs.
