I just purchased a AVerMedia M780 card to replace a failing PVR-150 card. Since this PVR-150 card was also the remote, I opted to get the MCE kit with the M780 card to get the remote and IR blaster (which is nice since it is a USB and not directly tied to a TV tuner card).

Anyways, the MCE IR has 2 IR Blasters and would like to use the remote to power on and off the TV and my receiver. I would also like to set up my remote so that the volume buttons control the volume on the receiver, as well at mute button.

I'm at a loss on which to use, HIP or EventGhost. I thought I read that EventGhost doesn't support the MCE IR Blaster (yet), but the website doesn't seem very clear about it.

Suggestions on which I should use would be great!

yea, sounds like HIP is a good choice....it does all that and has examples in the forum and wiki...Smile
once you figure out what's what in HIP, it's pretty easy to config..
i suggest trying out one of the pre-made HIP setups on forums to get you started...
if you're using pvrx2.exe then there might be some changes needed..
[small changes]

2 blasters are only needed if you have 2 identical boxes to control separately...
[so they don't control each other using same codes]
i use 1 to control everyting in the room...Smile [tv/pvr/etc]

Maybe I'm a little confused... but don't I need to have an IR Blaster in front of the IR sensor of my TV and receiver? HIP doesn't change the output of the remote, right? So wouldn't I need to put the 2 IR Blaster's the MCE Receiver came with pointed towards the TV and receiver? Then I configure HIP to output power on/off for the TV and receiver when I press the power button on my MCE remote, etc.?

the volume you could just learn from your receiver remote(program actual remote)you can also do this with the power button also
just a thought
i havent used that side of hip yet havent needed to
you could use one blaster but it would look funny sitting 3 feet out from your systemSmile
but didnt it come with 2 little ir plugin things(cant remember i thought mine did )

Oh, I just realized that I can program the actual MCE Vol+, Vol- and Power buttons for the buttons I want... :o

http://www.eirikso.com/2005/11/16/how-to...ce-remote/

I guess I don't need HIP at all then. Smile

Edit: I guess my MCE remote doesn't support this as I can't get it to program... Sad

Argh... I finally was getting HIP working like I wanted. Then I started to have HIP learn the remote control codes for my receiver. HIP would get a value, but the IR Blaster wouldn't actually work.

I then read and find out that the MCE IR Blaster doesn't work with all IR signals...

I guess I may have to go the USB-UIRT route if I want things to work right...

What did you use for your IR receiver?

using the harmony remote or similar
you could probably still use the mce as a reciever for it run hip (to open gbpvr) and control your computer stuff
then program it to also run your amp
so basically its just replacing the mce remote but still using the receiver plus the mce remote functions work really well with gbpvr
