Try setting a share on your XP machine, map it to a drive letter on the Vista machine, then set the output of the util to save it there.

Example:

Create "C:\EpgFiles" on XP machine and share it as "EpgFiles".
Map drive Z:\ on the Vista machine to "\\XpMachine\EpgFiles"
Set "dir=z:\" in your config.ini or on the command line.

Cool thanks! I'll definitely try it out in a week or so (going to wait until my last zap2it listings run out and then I'll make the changes on the htpc).

I can see where this would be easier than making XP access Vista. I was able to get that way to work setting up a Vista account with password and then setting XP to use that account and password when mapping to the Vista machine. I was also able to use a wake utility to wake the other machine that I posted in one these XML or ZAP2IT threads.

It would be nice to have some simplified instructions for people with mce 5.0 and gbpvr ,I have tried using this for over a week and still don't know which app. to use or what to do with any of them, I used the GUI and put it in the Ehome dir as directed but I still have to run mce to update the guide and then search for the file and move it to the c/windows ehome/output file to get gbpvr to see it.
It would be nice to have behave like the old guide ie: no user intervention .

which app do I use for what... and how do I use them?
also how do I use the command line to change the display ie: 1.2.3.4 channel name and number

BTW thanks for all the effort and programing knowledge to save us a bunch of cash!!!

There has never been instructions to install the GUI in the ehome directory.

When you install the package, it defaults to c:\epg. What happens when you run from there? The GUI was written to work from anywhere, but I know that it works from c:\EPG

What's MCE 5.0? Is that Windows XP MCE 2005?

Hmm the default directory for me was C:\EPG

For me, I first made sure my computer was successfully donwloading the EPG data in MCE. Then I ran MceEpg2Xmltv.exe which automatically found where the EPG database and converts it to a .XML file in the output directory.

In my case, it found where Vista MCE stored the EPG data here:

C:\EPG>mceepg2xmltv
MceEpg2XmlTv (Vista Edition)
-----------------------------
Current database:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\EPG\7d781b8dea334661af3646436e3636e7.sdf
Current XML file:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\EPG\7d781b8dea334661af3646436e3636e7.xml

This I am still tinkering with in config.ini where you can set the option of how the channels are displayed.

I might be mistaken but I though I saw somewhere that if you where using (xp)mce 2005 it should be put in ehome.
when I ran it from c:\egp I couldn't get a prgram guide , it was blank, so I reread the instructions ,but every time I did that I got something diffrent ,I deleted and reinstalled about 5 times before asking sub for help, It is working now until it needs to update then it's anyones game.

p.s. I am not being pissy, just telling my experience, I love the ..work that you have done ..and wish I was smart enough to understand how it works. GRIN

If MCE is Working right, then a totally default install of the GUI that includes the utils, from the wiki, should work.

You do not have to follow any other installation instructions for the utils, if you are using the GUI...

Then there's the issue getting it to work with GB-PVR. But that's documented as well.

What problems have you been having? I haven't seen your original posts...
