I am very impressed with GB-PVR, by far the best pvr and epg I have used to date.

Occasionally I have found the software goes through the install procedure on booting my computer. It looks for the original setup program, does the install again, while retaining my existing settings.

I am using XP SP2, anybody any ideas why this is happening?

Cheers,

Chris

it has detected that one of gbpvrs files has been modified or removed and so it runs the reinstall to fix this.

if this happens on bootup, i guess it is the starting of the recording service that detects this. have you played around with the web interface or the skin folder?

Thanks Ged.

No I haven't tinkered as yet. The only configuration changes I made were to get my K-World DVB card working through Config.

Does the program expect to be able to find the initial setup program ie. the GB-PVR download?

Cheers,

Chris

I sometimes get this if I have a drive missing due to messing around.
It wasn't the program drive, but I think it was the data or video drive.
I think it's a Microsoft activity due to using a .MSI installer???

I think you might be right Martin. It could be something to do with the fact my recordings etc. are on an external usb drive. Maybe the recording service is looking for paths before the usb drive has been mapped?

Now that you mention USB drives, something starts ringing bells - maybe I've read of similar on here. I'm not sure what triggers the reinstall though - the application seeing something wrong, or Windows seeing something wrong.

Hmmm, there seems to be oddly named msi files in \windows\installer that give descriptions if you hover a mouse over them in explorer - one of them on mine is gbpvr. I wonder if it is deleted then the automatic repair is not doe any more???
Am I feeling brave ?? - not at the moment, too many programmes to record over the weekend!

If the MSI installer decides it needs to run, it'll usually add a message in the Windows Event Viewer, so look for details there.
