AnyDVD and GB-PVR?

Reading up on AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html) it says:

AnyDVD is capable of removing unwanted movie features, including subtitles and prohibition messages such as copyright and FBI warnings.

I watch a lot of rented DVDs. Would this software work with GB-PVR and allow me to skip all the adverts and trailers at the start of each film? At the moment skip/search does nothing, I assume this is because these sections are marked as "must watch" like the copyright messages are.

Any comments and info appreciated

There are free solutions. DVDshrink which will pull out just the movie, and dvddecrypter which will remove the copy protection.
DVDshrink removes decryption also, but it hasn't been updated in a while so it doesn't handle all of the latest forms. DVddecrypter seems to work pretty well. It writes out the entire DVD and then you run dvdshrink on the output and just save the part you want. That way when you put the DVD in it can go directly to the title.

I don't think the OP was talking about copying the dvds, just watching them, in which case AnyDVD works great, as well as DVDIdle. They work on a driver level so the will be compatible with any player/software you use to watch or rip dvds. I use AnyDVD in combination with DVDDecrypter to copy my dvds. Because newer (Arccos) copy protection schemes mess DVDDecrypter up.

daveid is right - I don't want to copy them, I just want to enjoy the film without having to sit through 10mins of adverts!

Will give DVDIdle and AnyDVD a trail. The £ is so strong at the mo I can get either for £10-£25

Give DVDFAB Decrypter a try. It does the same as DVD Decrypter but is updated every few weeks so you don't even need AnyDVD. It is also freeware.

I had never paid attention to that aspect of AnyDVD. I had never even heard of DVDIdle. Looks like I need to try them out too. Can anyone give me their comparison of the two?

Give DVDFAB Decrypter a try. It does the same as DVD Decrypter but is updated every few weeks so you don't even need AnyDVD. It is also freeware.

Oops good point that is what I use, not dvddecrypter. Dvddecrypter as you guys pointed out doesn't work that well anymore.

Yes, I use AnyDVD with gbpvr. You have the option of having the DVD automatically go to the menu or to the start of the movie. It works on most DVDs. Another feature I like is that you can have subtitles display with a user selectable level of transparency.
