just got me a new hd2400xt radeon thought it was going to solve all my jumpy panning shots
BUT no
the panning shots are worse than my 6600nvidia
the catalyst control panel just sucks you cant turn things off completly

the only plus sofar is the picture fits the tv properly and the picture detail is nice but the panning which is the thing that gets to me is still really bad

Heres my question what driver and what version are people using with their radeon cards
are the omega drivers worth trying any help would be great im a bit depressed about now cause ive been trying to sort this direct3d playback thing for months now

it seems more to do with colours etc than what im not liking

im trying the omega drivers (EDIT :these drivers dont work with this card)
the catylyst control panel is making me MAD
the best playback i have seen so far is with just the driver loaded (no control panel)

the other question is whats the best mpeg decoder i tried a few last night but went back to pure video

i would have thought these new cards would have had their own control panel
and driver just for HD/home theatre without all the 3d crap for games as these cards are no good for games anyway
and it would seem to me no good for video either (at the moment)
i would not recomend one at the moment do not buy (i will change this if i get it working better) hopefully i will find the right combination

my live tv has stopped working aswell which im scratching my head about i havent changed anything in config owell something else to try and fix

try making sure all old version of ati driver are unloaded before installing newest one..from what i've heard they are still working out bugs in the new cards, but it should give decent performance as is..
try dscaler and the ati built in decoder..[add 'ATI MPEG Video Decoder' in config.xml under supported decoders]

i'm thinking the built-in ATI decoder would be best bet for that card..works great for me even for HD on a crappy x1550 card..Smile
i found out dscaler has a seek glitch but it works well also and has settings...ati's has no settings but seems to use all hardware accell...

new one for me...it does point to a failed driver install tho.."Zero Display Service Error" sounds like a Windows service problem..
u can do a repair install from cd if you have same service pack on it...otherwise you have to do all updates as well...
that would probably fix the windows error...
check the event logs for the windows error details first..
so once you get the drivers loaded properly it'll probably work better..Smile

maybe 'force' it to use the driver you select..
select 'don't search' and then the 'have disk' button and point to the ati\suport\[ver.]\ dir where they were unpacked...
when you get the right dir, it'll show a list of drivers in there and make sure to pick correct card..
if that gets the driver to load ok, go ahead and do another reinstall the normal way to make sure all the extras get loaded..
yea, i hate the control panel too, but i think on this card it's necessary...at least to set the good settings,i unload mine after i set it..

lol funny everytime i read something ive done it

i havent had so many issues trying to get a card going in ages
i cant even try old driver as they dont work (IVE TRIED)
from what ive read the error is something to do with the monitor i have connected (ie tv in this case if you connect something different aparently it doesnt do it)
it gets better there is also a vga device that shows up in the device manager list that has no driver and one cant be found tried forcing it and that just gave me ablue screen

i thought nvidia were bad now i remember why i ditched ati 2 years ago

that's a winblows problem..i always get it when going from nvidia to ati and vice versa..windows doesn't like to unload hardware...it keeps reg entries around and tries to force them on new one just in case it was just a driver glitch..
fresh install of win would do the trick i bet...
also maybe try latest directx as well..
or if you have builtin video or another video card to temp use set it up and reboot several times to finalize, and then remove temp vid card's drivers, then shutdown...install new ati and hopefully it won't try to re-detect it..

also, before you shutdown after removing vid card drivers, 'uninstall' from device manager also...that shold clear the mem.
it's the memory addresses that don't seem to clear, and windows can't detect that they are for a different card,so it thinks it found the old card.
at least that's my experience..

Is that ATI MPEG Video Decoder included in the card drivers, or in the dscaler drivers? I have a 2400pro with CCCP codec pack installed and the only video decoders in GBPVR are System Default, Cyberlink DTV, and MPV. I don't think I put PowerDVD on it after a fresh Windows install, so I'm thinking (and may have read) the Cyberlink DTV decoder is just another name for ATI MPEG Video Decoder. ...I can't get a screen with it anyway. I've been using MPV to get a picture. "ATI MPEG Video Decoder" is listed in config.xml, along with about ten others.

Stu, I'm using Catalyst 7.8 drivers with the AVSforum tweaks. Not sure how much a difference they made other than a little better picture due to getting rid of built-in noise reduction, etc. Pretty sure ATI has said they broke more things with 7.9 drivers than they fixed.

That mysterious device in device manager with no driver may be for the audio pass-through on the HDMI port. The driver is only found on the software CD included with the video card, I think. I don't care about including audio on the HDMI hookup at the moment, so I disabled it in device manager.

I'm not sure what you mean by a jumpy pan. My picture would jump a bit, and putting antialiasing on "use program" or whatever the setting is fixed it. I still get a wavy line that "folds" the screen every 15 or so seconds, but I think I narrowed it down to not doing it in overlay mode, so I'm thinking it's a VMR9 thing.

you have to install the avivo add on to get the decoders...or just find a copy of atidvcr.dll and regsvr32 it..Smile [Avivo is available separately..] it should have installed with the 'full' catalyst setup..
you'll get all the decoders and encoders and muxes etc..
then it should show up in config.exe to select from..
unless they changed the directshow 'name' slightly..
use graphedit to see what ati stuff is in there..
