I can browse to it on the localhost, but when I try to access via computer on the network I can't get it to open. I'm guessing that IIS or something along those lines needs to be installed. If so, what's my best option, I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Could there be a firewall in the way? When you come from outside lan you have to open/forward port 7647 (default) in the router.
Edit: you don't need IIS.

It's not working on the INSIDE LAN. No firewall. Everything else works from my laptop to the DVR (VNC, VLC, RPC, RDS...)

No XP firewall.

Yes, exactly.

If I sit on the DVR and put http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx it works
Do it remotely from a machine that's connected to the DVR by VNC (so it is available from the laptop) by entering http://10.10.20.3:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx and nothing.

The main thing is now I know it SHOULD work, so now when I get back home I can troubleshoot some more. I forgot to open VNC on my firewall before I left, and also forgot to set remote mgmt of the firewall, so now I can't work on it until I get home.

I am guessing the windows firewall is turned on at the gbpvr server......there have been a lot of people that have had the windows firewall turn on without their knowledge.....

No Windows Firewall. I promise. (I'm an IT guy... yea I know, that's not saying much, but I'm actually one that knows what he's doing)

Well, I came home, tried it, and it works. I guess something was just funky this morning. Works great!

Wink

Sorry couldn't resist. Just saying we all think we know what we are doing until we find out that's not always the case.

Honest, we are not ganging up on you... I'm an IT guy too (have been for 35 years) and the only time I ever say that I know what I am doing is right after I have got something to work... up till then "I am just looking into it"...Wink

I know what you mean though about a lot of so-called IT guys - if I had a dollar for every 'computer expert' I had met over the last 35 years... I'd be typing in this post from a sunny beach somewhere with a styrofoam six-pack just to hand... Big Grin
